System And Method For Determining And Displaying Thetrajectory Of A Cricket Bat During A Swing Motion

Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention provide a technical solution in the domain of sports analytics, more specifically directed to the real-time tracking and visual interpretation of the swing trajectory of a cricket bat, using a single side-view camera in combination with a deep learning-based computer vision system. The system comprises an image acquisition unit, such as a consumer-grade camera, configured to capture a continuous stream of video frames depicting a batsman’s swing motion. These frames are processed by a computing device, which may be a laptop, mobile terminal, or edge computing unit, operatively coupled to the camera and executing a trained keypoint detection model based on a convolutional neural network architecture, preferably YOLOv8. Said model is configured to detect at least two keypoints on the bat—specifically, the distal tip (top) and proximal toe (bottom) in each video frame, based on annotated training data representative of various real-world playing conditions.
