Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of hygiene products, and more particularly to a sustainable and reusable sanitary pad configured for feminine hygiene applications.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Menstrual hygiene management has long relied on disposable sanitary pads, which are widely used for their convenience and ease of disposal. However, such products contribute significantly to environmental waste, as they are often made of non-biodegradable plastics, chemical adhesives, and synthetic absorbent materials that persist in landfills for hundreds of years. Additionally, disposable pads may cause skin irritation, rashes, or allergies in some users due to prolonged exposure to chemicals and synthetic fibers. The recurring cost of purchasing disposable sanitary products also places an economic burden on many users, particularly in low-income or resource-constrained regions.
[0003] Reusable cloth pads were introduced as an alternative to address these challenges by offering washable, long-lasting, and eco-friendly solutions. While these reusable pads reduce waste and prove cost-effective in the long term, they often face limitations in terms of comfort, stability, and usability. Conventional reusable pads tend to slip out of place during use, as they lack effective securing mechanisms. This displacement can lead to discomfort, leakage, and user dissatisfaction. Existing designs typically rely only on side flaps or stitching to hold the pad in position, which may not provide adequate grip during physical movement.
[0004] Moreover, most reusable cloth pads offer fixed absorbency levels, meaning that users must purchase multiple pads with varying thicknesses to meet different flow requirements. This not only reduces the convenience of such products but also increases maintenance efforts. The lack of modularity in absorbent design prevents customization, which is an essential factor for user comfort and efficiency.

Some non-limiting examples of non-transitory computer-readable media include CDs, DVDs, BLU-RAY, flash memory, and hard disk drives.
[0021] As illustrated in Figure 1, the present invention relates to a reusable cloth pad (100) designed to address the issues of hygiene, comfort, sustainability, and security during use. Conventional disposable pads, though convenient, contribute significantly to environmental waste and often lack the comfort and reusability desired by users. The reusable cloth pad (100) of the present invention introduces an innovative design that not only provides superior absorbency and safety but also incorporates user-friendly features such as detachable absorbent layers (102), button wings (103), and silicone grip balls (104), ensuring that the pad remains in place during extended use while maintaining high levels of comfort.
[0022] The cloth pad (100) comprises a base layer (101) that acts as the primary foundation of the product. The base layer (101) is preferably formed from soft, breathable, and sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, bamboo fiber, or hemp fabric, which are known for their moisture-wicking and hypoallergenic properties. This choice of material ensures that the pad (100) remains comfortable against the skin, reduces the risk of irritation, and provides durability for multiple cycles of washing and reuse. The base layer (101) is cut in an anatomically contoured shape to conform to the body of the user, ensuring a snug fit that enhances both comfort and functionality.
[0023] Mounted upon the base layer (101) are one or more detachable absorbent layers (102), which form a critical component of the design. The absorbent layers (102) are engineered to be removable, replaceable, and customizable, allowing the user to adjust the absorbency of the pad (100) according to their needs. For instance, during days of heavy flow, multiple absorbent layers (102) can be attached to the base layer (101), whereas during lighter flow, fewer layers may be used. This modularity ensures that the pad (100) caters to different usage conditions without requiring the user to purchase multiple pads of varying absorbencies. Each absorbent layer (102) may be attached using fastening mechanisms such as snap fasteners, hook-and-loop patches, or even concealed magnetic attachments, providing ease of use while ensuring that the layers remain firmly secured during wear.
[0024] To further enhance stability and prevent displacement, the reusable cloth pad (100) incorporates button wings (103). The button wings (103) extend laterally from opposing sides of the base layer (101) and are designed to fold around the crotch portion of the user’s undergarment. The wings (103) may be fastened beneath the undergarment using snap buttons or other suitable attachment means. This ensures that the pad (100) remains locked in place, preventing lateral shifting and leakage, even during physical movement. The button wings (103) are made from the same breathable and soft fabric as the base layer (101) to avoid discomfort, and the fastening mechanisms are designed to be flat and unobtrusive, minimizing the risk of bulging under clothing.
[0025] In addition to the button wings (103), the underside of the base layer (101) is provided with silicone grip balls (104), which serve as a supplementary securing mechanism. These silicone grip balls (104) are distributed in a patterned arrangement across the bottom surface of the pad (100). Their function is to enhance friction between the pad (100) and the fabric of the undergarment, thereby minimizing the risk of pad slippage. Unlike adhesives found in disposable pads, which can leave residues and compromise reusability, the silicone grip balls (104) provide a reusable, washable, and skin-safe alternative. The silicone material is biocompatible, water-resistant, and retains its grip properties even after multiple washes. The arrangement of grip balls (104) may be optimized for maximum effectiveness, such as being concentrated along the central axis of the base layer (101) or distributed uniformly across the underside.
[0026] The reusable cloth pad (100) is constructed to be foldable and compact, allowing for easy storage and portability. After use, the pad (100) may be washed by hand or machine without compromising its structure, making it suitable for long-term use. The washable nature of the materials ensures sustainability and cost savings for the user, reducing reliance on disposable alternatives. The choice of fabrics and structural design also ensure quick drying, which is an important feature for users in regions with limited access to drying facilities.
[0027] An important aspect of the invention lies in its ability to be tailored to individual user preferences. The modular absorbent layers (102) can be manufactured in different thicknesses and absorption capacities, such as light, medium, or heavy flow variants. The user may combine these as desired. The base layer (101) may also be offered in different sizes to accommodate varying body shapes and garment types. Furthermore, the silicone grip balls (104) can be patterned in different configurations, such as circular, hexagonal, or linear arrays, depending on the required grip strength. The button wings (103) may also vary in length and fastening styles, such as snap closures, Velcro strips, or magnetic clasps, to suit different preferences.
[0028] From a manufacturing perspective, the cloth pad (100) can be produced using eco-friendly processes that align with its sustainability goals. For instance, the fabrics used in the base layer (101) and absorbent layers (102) may be dyed using natural, non-toxic dyes. The silicone grip balls (104) may be applied using heat-based adhesion techniques that embed the balls securely into the fabric without compromising its breathability. This ensures that the pad (100) remains not only environmentally sustainable but also safe for prolonged contact with the human body.
[0029] The advantages of the invention are multifold. Firstly, it provides superior hygiene compared to conventional disposable pads by eliminating chemical adhesives and plastic backings. Secondly, it delivers high comfort through the use of breathable, soft fabrics and ergonomic design. Thirdly, it ensures security during use by combining button wings (103) and silicone grip balls (104), preventing displacement even under dynamic movement. Fourthly, it reduces waste significantly, as a single pad (100) can be reused for several years. Lastly, it empowers users by giving them customizable options for absorbency and fit, which is not possible in single-use disposable products.
[0030] The reusable cloth pad (100) may also incorporate optional features without departing from the scope of the invention. For instance, an additional waterproof barrier layer may be included beneath the absorbent layers (102) to provide extra leakage protection. The pad (100) could also feature antimicrobial treatment applied to the fabrics to inhibit bacterial growth and odor. In another embodiment, the pad (100) may include a guiding seam or stitch pattern that allows users to fold it neatly for compact storage. Furthermore, aesthetic elements such as printed patterns, colors, and textures can be integrated into the design to make the product visually appealing and encourage adoption by a wider user base.
[0031] In operation, the user selects the appropriate absorbent layers (102) depending on their needs and attaches them to the base layer (101). The pad (100) is then placed onto the undergarment, with the base layer (101) in contact with the fabric of the undergarment. The button wings (103) are wrapped around the crotch portion of the undergarment and fastened securely beneath it. The silicone grip balls (104) enhance friction between the pad (100) and the undergarment, ensuring that the pad does not slip out of place during walking, sitting, or other activities. After use, the absorbent layers (102) can be detached and washed separately or along with the base layer (101). Once cleaned and dried, the pad (100) can be reused multiple times.
[0032] While considerable emphasis has been placed herein on the specific features of the preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that many additional features can be added and that many changes can be made in the preferred embodiment without departing from the principles of the disclosure. These and other changes in the preferred embodiment of the disclosure will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein, whereby it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the disclosure and not as a limitation.
