Abstract: A battery system management device, according to one embodiment of the present invention, may comprise: at least one processor; and a memory for storing one or more instructions executed through the at least one processor. Here, the one or more instructions may include instructions for: defining an equivalent model for a battery system, comprising a plurality of batteries and at least one protection element and being formed into a predefined connection structure; by using the equivalent model, calculating a short-circuit current generated in the battery system when a short-circuit occurs at a specific position in the battery system; comparing the calculated short-circuit current with a limiting current of the protection element; and, on the basis of the comparison result, determining the number of batteries being provided in the battery system.
