Abstract: The present invention relates to a battery state estimation method and a battery system providing same. The battery system of the present invention comprises: a battery including a plurality of battery cells; and a battery management system (BMS) that calculates a first variation of state of charge (SOC), which is the difference between a first SOC calculated at a first predetermined time before the beginning of electrical conduction between the battery and an external device and a second SOC calculated at a second time when the electrical conduction is ended, and a second variation of SOC, which is the difference between the first SOC and a third SOC calculated at a third time when a predetermined time elapses from the second time, wherein the BMS estimates a state of health (SOH) of the battery on the basis of the first variation of SOC and the second variation of SOC.
