Lithium Secondary Battery

Abstract: The present invention relates to a lithium secondary battery having improved safety during thermal runaway, the lithium secondary battery comprising: a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material; a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material; and an electrolyte, wherein the lithium secondary battery has a nominal voltage of 3.68 V or more, and when a test module is manufactured by stacking four of the lithium secondary batteries fully charged up to 4.35 V and then measured for VT, which is represented by the following equation (1), the measurement value is 4 Ah/sec or less. Equation (1): VT = Ctotal/t, wherein Ctotal is the total discharge capacity of the test module; and t is the time taken from the moment when the voltage of the lithium secondary battery placed at the outermost part of the test module reaches 0 V after being ignited by heating, until the voltage of all lithium secondary batteries within the test module reaches 0 V.
