Abstract: [Problem] To provide a vertical reactor capable of gasifying biomass in a temperature range lower than a phase transition temperature range of silica even while using inexpensive equipment. [Solution] The present invention provides a vertical reactor in which silicicolous plant-derived biomass, which is a raw material, is brought into contact with oxygen and water vapor for combustion and gasification. The vertical reactor comprises: a fluidized bed provided at the bottom of the reactor; a gas supply mechanism for supplying an oxygen-containing gas to the fluidized bed to form an entrained bed; a raw material supply mechanism for supplying the raw material to the entrained bed; and an upper water supply mechanism for spraying water into a space above the entrained bed.
