Abstract: Title: ADJUSTABLE GRAB HANDLE FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) in accordance with the disclosed invention comprises an upper body (1), a lower body (2), a slider and locking pin (3), a push button (4), a spring (5), a cover plate (6), a durable strap (7), a first set of fasteners (8, 9), a second set of fasteners (10) and a handle (15). The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) in accordance with the disclosed invention is safe to use and can be easily adjusted and fixed along the rails provided in the passenger vehicle, it has a simple construction and it is easy to produce in large numbers therefore allowing it to be sold at an affordable cost. The following specification particularly describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the way it is to be performed.
Field of Invention
[001] The invention relates to grab handles provided on rails installed in passenger vehicles. The invention particularly relates to mechanisms provided in grab handles that permit its position to be adjusted on the rails installed on the passenger vehicles.
Background of the Invention
[002] Conventional grab handles provided in passenger vehicles are either fixed on one position on the rails using fasteners or are capable of sliding on the rails but not necessarily holding the new position on it. Particularly speaking about sliding grab handles, such grab handles do not allow the passengers to hold themselves in their position if brakes are applied suddenly for any reason, which is a big safety concern. Known adjustment mechanisms allow any such conventional gab handles to be extended to allow passengers of different height to hold them but they do not necessarily allow position of the grab handle to be shifted and reliably fixed on one location on the rail. Furthermore, the more complicated the engineering involved in the creation of such grab handle gets, the harder it becomes to keep the cost of providing them affordable, as this limits the ease of manufacturing that is linked to achieving greater economies of scale. Therefore, it is an objective of this invention to provide a grab handle for passenger vehicles that is safe to use and can be easily adjusted and fixed along the rails provided in the passenger vehicle.
[003] It is another objective of the present invention to provide a grab handle for passenger vehicles that has a simple construction.
[004] It is still another objective of the present invention to provide a grab handle for passenger vehicles that is easy to produce in large numbers therefore allowing it to be sold at an affordable cost.
Summary of the Invention
[005] The invention achieving the stated objectives, i.e. the adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) comprises of an upper body (1), a lower body (2), a slider and locking pin (3), a push button (4), a spring (5), a cover plate (6), a durable strap (7), a first set of fasteners (8, 9), a second set of fasteners (10), and a handle (15). In the adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100), the upper body (1), is attached to the lower body (2) along there flanges by means of first set of fasteners (8, 9). The cover plate (6) attached to this open side of this lower body (2) by means of a second set of fasteners (10). The durable strap (7) is received on a U-shaped ring provided on the lower end of the lower body (2), the lower end of the durable strap (7) is received within and fastened to the handle (15). In the hollow space available within the open box shaped lower end of the lower body (2). The lower end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated on lower inside surface of the lower body (2). The upper end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated within a central opening given on the lower surface of the slider and locking pin (3). The push button (4) has two lower projections that are provided with inclined lower surfaces, the inclined lower surfaces of push button (4) are in sliding contact with inclined side surfaces of the slider and locking pin (3).

Detailed Description of the Invention
[001] Referring to figures 1 and 2, an adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the proposed invention comprises of an upper body (1), a lower body (2), a slider and locking pin (3), a push button (4), a spring (5), a cover plate (6), a durable strap (7), a first set of fasteners (8, 9), a second set of fasteners (10) and a handle (15).
[002] The upper body (1), is attached to the lower body (2) along there flanges by means of first set of fasteners (8, 9) (refer figs. 1, 2, 4a and 4b). The upper body (1) and the lower body (2) has a semi-circular central position that together form a hollow circular confinement capable of being mounted onto the passenger vehicle’s railing. The lower body (2) has an opening at a central position within its top semi-circular shaped body that opens into its box shaped lower portion. This box shaped lower portion is open from one side. The cover plate (6) attached to this open side of this lower body (2) by means of a second set of fasteners (10) (refer figs. 3a, 4b, and 4f). A durable strap (7) is received on a U-shaped ring provided on the lower end of the lower body (2) (refer fig. 3a). The lower end of the durable strap (7) is received within and fastened to the handle (15).
[003] In the hollow space available within the open box shaped lower end of the lower body (2), the lower end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated on lower inside surface of the lower body (2). The upper end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated within a central opening given on the lower surface of the slider and locking pin (3) (refer figs. 3a, 4b, 4c and 4e). The push button (4)’s has two lower projections that are provided with inclined lower surfaces. The inclined lower surfaces of push button (4) are in sliding contact with inclined side surfaces of the slider and locking pin (3). The push button (3) is positioned on the slider and locking pin (3) and within the lower body (2) so as to allow the top projection of the push button (3) to ordinarily project outwards from an opening given in the cover plate (6), and the upper projection of the slider and locking pin (3) to ordinarily project outwards from the opening provided in the central position within the lower body (2)’s top semi-circular shaped body (refer figs. 1, 3a, 3b, 4b, 4c and 4f).
[004] When the passenger wants to adjust the position of the adjustable grab handle (100) on the railing, the passenger can press the projection of the push button (4) emerging out of the cover plate (6). This would cause the two lower projections of the push button (4) to push the side inclined surfaces of the slider and locking pin (3) and cause the slider and locking pin (3) move downwards thereby compressing the spring (6). As the slider and locking pin (3) moves downwards, the top projection of the slider and locking pin (3) would also move downwards, thereby allowing the adjustable grab handle (100) to move freely on the railing. Once the adjustment action is considered as completed by the passenger, the passenger only has to release the push button (4), thereby allowing it to move back to its initial position under the action of the spring (6).
[005] Technical advantages offered by the invention i.e., the adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100), are-
- It is safe to use and can be easily adjusted and fixed along the rails provided in the passenger vehicle.
- It has a simple construction.
- It is easy to produce in large numbers therefore allowing it to be sold at an affordable cost.

Therefore, while the present invention has been herein described in terms of its preferred embodiment, those skilled in the art will recognize that the preferred embodiment herein disclosed, can be practiced with modifications within the scope of the invention herein described.

• a handle (15).

- the upper body (1), is attached to the lower body (2) along there flanges by means of first set of fasteners (8, 9);
- the cover plate (6) attached to this open side of this lower body (2) by means of a second set of fasteners (10);
- the durable strap (7) is received on a U-shaped ring provided on the lower end of the lower body (2), the lower end of the durable strap (7) is received within and fastened to the handle (15);
- in the hollow space available within the open box shaped lower end of the lower body (2), the lower end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated on lower inside surface of the lower body (2);
- the upper end of the spring (5) is firmly accommodated within a central opening given on the lower surface of the slider and locking pin (3); and
- the push button (4) has two lower projections that are provided with inclined lower surfaces, the inclined lower surfaces of push button (4) are in sliding contact with inclined side surfaces of the slider and locking pin (3).
2. The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, the upper body (1) and the lower body (2) has a semi-circular central position that together form a hollow circular confinement capable of being mounted onto the passenger vehicle’s railing.
3. The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicles (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein, the lower body (2) has an opening at a central position within its top semi-circular shaped body that opens into its box shaped lower portion, this box shaped lower portion is open from one side.
4. The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein, the push button (3) is positioned on the slider and locking pin (3) and within the lower body (2) so as to allow the top projection of the push button (3) to ordinarily project outwards from an opening given in the cover plate (6).
5. The adjustable grab handle for passenger vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein, the upper projection of the slider and locking pin (3) to ordinarily project outwards from the opening provided in the central position within the lower body (2)’s top semi-circular shaped body.
