Abstract: Title: Adjustable Bracket for Mounting Exhaust Pipe on a Vehicle An adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) in accordance with an embodiment of the disclosed invention comprises of, a plate (5), a base bracket (10), a helical spring (15), a sliding bracket (20), a tailpipe bracket (25TB), and a U-bolt (30). The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100), so disclosed, is effective in damping linear vibrations getting transmitted between the chassis and the tailpipe, is easy to adjust and provide in different vehicles, is easy to design and manufacture, and is economical both in terms of both time and costs involved in its designing, testing, and manufacturing. Description:Field of Invention
[001] The invention relates to tailpipe mounting brackets provided in vehicles. It more particularly relates to tailpipe mounting brackets who have been provided with mechanisms to adjust their height as required. The bracket additionally relates to tailpipe mounting brackets that are capable of isolating tailpipe from the vibrations of the vehicular chassis.
Background of the Invention
[002] Conventional tailpipe mounting brackets are custom made for each vehicle design while taking into account the vehicle architecture, tailpipe size, weight and routing. Such tailpipe mounting brackets have to be engineered perfectly and made from an appropriately selected material. The brackets, so designed, are also expected to isolate the tailpipe from the vibrations of the vehicular chassis.
[003] Given that each of these tailpipe mounting brackets have to be designed specifically for each vehicle, making them afresh for each vehicle design adds to their tooling, and manufacturing costs. The typical design process also involves creation and testing of multiple iterations of such specially designed brackets before any one design is approved for usage on the vehicle. All this adds to both the time and cost of designing a vehicle. Therefore, there is need for an adjustable tailpipe mounting bracket that can be made and then easily adjusted to mount tailpipes on different vehicles.

[004] Conventional tailpipe mounting bracket also tend to be poor at isolating the tailpipes from the vibrations from the vehicular chassis. This exposes the tailpipes varying loads during the operation of the vehicle. This unless accounted for during the designing of the tailpipes and the brackets creates possibility of the tailpipe or the bracket failing during the lifetime of the vehicle. Therefore, it is an objective of the present invention to provide a tailpipe mounting bracket that is effective in damping vibrations getting transmitted between the chassis and the tailpipe.
[005] It is another objective of the present invention to provide a tailpipe mounting bracket that is easy to adjust and provide in different vehicles.
[006] It is still another objective of the present invention to provide a tailpipe mounting bracket that is easy to design and manufacture.
[007] It is yet another objective of the present invention to provide a tail pipe mounting bracket that is economical both in terms of both time and costs involved in its designing, testing, and manufacturing.
Summary of the Invention
[008] An embodiment of the invention achieving the stated objective, that is adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle, comprises of, a plate, a base bracket, a helical spring, a sliding bracket, a tailpipe bracket, and a U-bolt. In the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle, the base bracket has a C-shaped construction; the base bracket is provided with slots on its side walls. The slots allow the upper portion of the sliding bracket with corresponding matching protrusions on its side walls to slide within the slots of the base bracket. The spring has its one end fixed in an opening given in the centre the plate fixed on the top end of the base bracket. The other end of the spring is fixed in an opening given in the centre of another plate. This plate is fixed at the top end of the upper portion of the sliding bracket; and the sliding bracket has a lower portion that merges with the upper portion along the lower edge of said upper portion. The tailpipe bracket is fixed on the lower surface of the lower portion of the sliding bracket by means of a U-bolt and conventional fastening means.

[009] The present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings that contain references numerals for indicating its various parts. The description of the present invention would therefore be better understood with reference to accompanying diagrams, wherein

Detailed Description of the Invention
[0014] Referring to figure 1, an adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100), comprises of, a plate (5), a base bracket (10), a helical spring (15), a sliding bracket (20), a tailpipe bracket (25TB), and a U-bolt (30). The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) has construction as indicated in the Figure 1 to 3 and as described hereinafter.
[0015] The base bracket (10) (refer to Fig. 1) has a C-shaped construction. The base bracket (10) is provided with slots (10S) on its side walls. The slots (10S) allow the upper portion (20A) of the sliding bracket (20) with corresponding matching protrusions on its side walls to slide within the slots (10S) of the base bracket (10). The spring (15) refer to Figs. 1 and 2) has its one end fixed in an opening given in the centre the plate (5).
[0016] The plate (5) (refer to Figs. 1 and 2) is fixed at the top open end of the base bracket (10). The other end of the spring (15) is fixed in an opening given in the centre of another plate (20TP). The plate (20TP) is fixed at the top end of the upper portion (20A) of the sliding bracket (20). The sliding bracket (20) has a lower portion (20B) that merges with the upper portion (20A) along the lower edge of said upper portion (20A). The lower portion (20B) (refer to Fig. 3) of the sliding bracket (20) is perpendicular to the upper portion (20A).
[0017] The tailpipe bracket (25TB) (refer to Figs 2 and 3) is fixed on the lower surface of the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket (20) by means of a U-bolt (30) and conventional fastening means. The conventional fasters used for fastening an exhaust pipe (35) to the tailpipe bracket (25TB) and through it to the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket (20) are selected from available nuts of standard sizes.
[0018] The tailpipe bracket (25TB) (refer to Fig. 2) is provided with a flat base, and the flat base has in turn been provided with two side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) along the length of said base. The side walls give the tailpipe bracket (25TB) a U-shaped cut section profile. The side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) (refer to Figs. 2 and 3) have an arch shaped accommodating space along the centre of the lower edge of said side walls. The side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) are joined with each other only through the base of said tail pipe bracket (25TB). With reference to Fig. 4, it can be seen that the base bracket (10) of the adjustable bracket for mounting an exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) can be easily fixed on the vehicle frame (45) by means of welds (40).
[0019] The sliding bracket (20) is free to move linearly within the base bracket (10), with its movement being restricted only by the slots (10S) and the helical spring (15). The tailpipe (35), so housed on the tail pipe bracket (25TB) and linked with the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket using U-bolt (30), is therefore isolated from linear vibrations that may get transmitted through the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100). Whenever there is any linear motion, slider bracket (20) slides within the base bracket (10) to allow for permitted linear movement between said brackets (10, and 20). The helical spring (15), i.e. a tension spring, absorbs the energy from the respective brackets (10, 20) it is linked with, thereby enabling both isolation and damping of vibrations getting transmitted through the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100).
[0020] The presence of the helical spring (15) also makes the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) easy to adjust and provide in different vehicles. The design time and costs would only have to be provisioned for limited changes in the helical spring (15), the tail pipe bracket (25TB) and the U-bolt (30), with changes in other components of the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) being minimal.
[0021] Technical advantages offered by the invention i.e., adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) are-
- It is effective in damping linear vibrations getting transmitted between the chassis and the tailpipe.
- It is easy to adjust and provide in different vehicles.
- It is easy to design and manufacture.
- It is economical both in terms of both time and costs involved in its designing, testing, and manufacturing.
- It is sturdy, strong and capable of surviving for the entire lifetime of the vehicle.
[0022] The disclosed invention i.e. the adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) achieves all the set-out objectives.
[0023] It is to be understood that the phraseology or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation. Therefore, while the present invention has been herein described in terms of its preferred embodiment, those skilled in the art will recognize that the preferred embodiment herein disclosed, can be practiced with modifications within the scope of the invention herein described.
, Claims:We Claim,
1. An adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) comprising,
• a plate (5),
• a base bracket (10),
• a helical spring (15)
• a sliding bracket (20),
• a tailpipe bracket (25TB),
• a U-bolt (30),
wherein,
- the base bracket (10) has a C-shaped construction, the base bracket (10) is provided with slots (10S) on its side walls, the slots (10S) allow the upper portion (20A) of the sliding bracket (20) with corresponding matching protrusions on its side walls to slide within the slots (10S) of the base bracket (10);
- the spring (15) has its one end fixed in an opening given in the centre the plate (5), the plate (5) is fixed at the top open end of the base bracket (10), the other end of the spring (15) is fixed in an opening given in the centre of another plate (20TP), the plate (20TP) is fixed at the top end of the upper portion (20A) of the sliding bracket (20); and
- the sliding bracket (20) has a lower portion (20B) that merges with the upper portion (20A) along the lower edge of said upper portion (20A), the tailpipe bracket (25TB) is fixed on the lower surface of the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket (20) by means of a U-bolt (30) and conventional fastening means.
2. The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, the tailpipe bracket (25TB) is provided with a flat base, and the flat base has in turn been provided with two side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) along the length of said base, the side walls give the tailpipe bracket (25TB) a U-shaped cut section profile.
3. The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) have an arch shaped accommodating space along the centre of the lower edge of said side walls.
4. The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein, the side walls (20TBS1, 20TBS2) are joined with each other only through the base of said tail pipe bracket (25TB).

The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein, the conventional fasters used for fastening an exhaust pipe (35) to the tailpipe bracket (25TB) and through it to the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket (20) are selected from available nuts of standard sizes.
6. The adjustable bracket for mounting exhaust pipe on a vehicle (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein, the lower portion (20B) of the sliding bracket (20) is perpendicular to the upper portion (20A).
