Exhaust After Treatment System For An Internal Combustion Engine (Ice)

Abstract: ABSTRACT EXHAUST AFTER-TREATMENT SYSTEM FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE (ICE) An exhaust after-treatment system (100) in a vehicle is disclosed. The exhaust after-treatment system (100) comprises at least one urea injection unit (114) to inject a urea into an exhaust stream, and a mixer assembly (108) to guide the exhaust stream and the injected urea to facilitate uniform mixing of the exhaust stream and the injected urea. The mixer assembly (108) comprises at least one swirl plate (110) having a predefined thickness and configured to induce a swirl motion within the exhaust stream. The at least one swirl plate (110) is configured to absorb heat from the exhaust stream to maintain an elevated temperature. The mixer assembly (108) further comprises at least one S-plate (112) having a central cut-out and configured to maximize a flow of the exhaust stream towards a distal end of the mixer assembly. <>

Specification

Description:EXHAUST AFTER-TREATMENT SYSTEM FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE (ICE)

FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to a field of exhaust after-treatment systems in automotive emissions control technology, and in particular, relates to a urea (AdBlue) mixer for a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and a method for optimizing urea decomposition and reducing crystallization in vehicle exhaust systems.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] In modern diesel engines, Selective C , Claims:WE CLAIM:
1. An exhaust after-treatment system (100) in a vehicle comprising:
at least one urea injection unit (114) configured to inject a urea into an exhaust stream; and
a mixer assembly (108) operationally coupled to the at least one urea injection unit (114), wherein the mixer assembly (108) is configured to guide the exhaust stream and the injected urea to facilitate uniform mixing of the exhaust stream and the injected urea, and wherein the mixer assembly (108) comprising:
at least one swirl plate (110) having a predefined thickness, wherein the at least one swirl plate (110) is configured to:
induce a swirl motion within the exhaust stream, and
absorb heat from the exhaust stream to maintain an elevated temperature,
at least one S-plate (112) having a central cut-out, wherein the at least one S-plate (112) is configured to maximize a flow of the exhaust stream towards a distal end of the mixer assembly (108).

2. The exhaust after-treatment system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mixer assem
