Assisting Vehicle Overtaking On A Road

Abstract: ABSTRACT ASSISTING VEHICLE OVERTAKING ON A ROAD Approaches for assisting vehicle overtaking on two-way roads are described. In an example, a control device comprised in the vehicle is used to control the motor and steering systems of the vehicle to execute the 5 overtaking maneuver. In an example, sensor data from multiple sensors installed on the vehicle is continuously obtained and monitored. Based on the monitoring, a first distance between the vehicle and a to-be overtaken vehicle moving in the same direction is determined. Upon determining the first distance exceeds a first threshold value, a second distance between 10 the vehicle and an oncoming vehicle in the opposite direction is determined. If the second distance exceeds a second threshold value, a target acceleration for completing an overtaking maneuver is iteratively determined based on the sensor data. On determining the target acceleration, the control device causes a control signal based on the target 15 acceleration to be transmitted to a motor control unit to perform the overtaking maneuver.
