Algae Based Power Generation And Photodetector Device And Method Thereof

Abstract: The disclosure provides an algae based algae based power generation and photo-detection device (100). The device (100) includes a copper substrate (101) coated with an activated carbon film (102), a macroalgae biofilm (104) spread over the activated carbon-coated electrode and a transparent titanium oxide (TiO2) coated (105) fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass electrode (106) covering the macroalgae film. The illumination of the microalgae biofilm through the FTO glass electrode is configured to generate a voltage in proportion to the intensity of illumination. A method (200) for fabricating an algae based power generation and photo-detection device is also disclosed. The device is easy to use, compact, cost- effective and eco-friendly. The device functions without deterioration in performance up to 6 months, after which, the algal layer may be replaced and the other layers reused, thus eliminating the problem of waste disposal.

None.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to electricity generating and photodetector devices and more particularly relates to quasi-solid state bio-photovoltaic device and method thereof.
BACKGROUND OF THE RELATED ART
Today, it is well accepted that humanity is facing severe challenges due to decreasing fossil fuel reserves and increasing energy demand for overpopulation and unsustainable lifestyle choices. Solar energy has emerged as a promising method for generating electricity, and t , Claims:We claim:
1. An algae based power generation and photo-detection device (100), the device comprising:
a copper (Cu) electrode (101) coated with an activated carbon film (102;
a macroalgae biofilm (104) spread over the activated carbon‐coated electrode; and
a transparent titanium oxide (TiO2) coated (105) fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass electrode (106) covering the macroalgae biofilm,
wherein illumination of the macroalgae biofilm through the FTO glass electrode is configured to generate a voltage in proportion to the intensity of illumination.

2. The device as claimed in the claim 1, wherein the macroalgae (102) comprises freshwater filamentous green algae.

3. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the macroalgae (102) is Pithophora roettleri.

4. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the transparent titanium oxide (TiO2) coating (105) comprises a thickness of 200 nm having anatase crystal structure.

5. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device is configured
