Specification

Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically to explainable AI (XAI) systems. The invention focuses on improving the interpretability of complex machine learning models using Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations (LIME). The system enhances transparency by offering detailed, real-time explanations for deep learning and AI-driven decision-making systems, particularly in high-stakes industries such as healthcare, finance, and legal domains.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Advanced artificial intelligence systems require much better methods to explain their actions and show their internal workings. Despite their high-level performance deep learning methods work as “black boxes” because users cannot understand how they make decisions. The lack of understanding makes these systems hard to use in areas where proper model decisions are essential. LIME helps models make their predictions understandable by providing insights into individual predictions which improves model clarity. Although LIME shows promise it struggles to work with larger and more advanced models as it lowers performance and requires excessive processing time. This research studies how LIME can enable AI systems to be more easily understood by looking at its practical use with real-world models. The research creates a reliable system by using local surrogate models to dicover valuable insights and ensure both effective AI systems and trusted user outcomes.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly being adopted across various industries to make data-driven decisions. However, deep learning and complex machine learning models operate as “black-box” systems, meaning their decision-making process remains opaque to users. The lack of interpretability creates significant challenges in fields where understanding model predictions is crucial for regulatory compliance, trust, and accountability.
Existing solutions, such as LIME, SHAP, and IBM Watson OpenScale, attempt to explain model outputs by highlighting the importance of different input features. However, these solutions face limitations in scalability, accuracy, speed, and generalization. LIME, in particular, struggles with high-dimensional datasets and computational efficiency, making it impractical for real-time applications.
Furthermore, current AI transparency tools often require advanced expertise for implementation and interpretation, limiting their accessibility to non-expert users. As AI adoption continues to grow, there is a pressing need for an enhanced interpretability framework that provides precise, real-time, and user-friendly model explanations.
The present invention addresses these shortcomings by refining the LIME framework to deliver more accurate, scalable, and efficient AI model interpretations. The system introduces real-time feedback, enhanced visualization tools, and an intuitive user interface to improve usability while maintaining high computational efficiency.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts, in a simplified format, that are further described in the detailed description of the invention.
This summary is neither intended to identify key or essential inventive concepts of the invention and nor is it intended for determining the scope of the invention.
The proposed invention introduces an advanced explainability framework that enhances the functionality of LIME in XAI systems. It provides granular, real-time, and detailed insights into AI decision-making by integrating input data perturbation, local model fitting, and feature importance visualization.
The system employs a data perturbation mechanism to generate variations of input instances, allowing the black-box model to process altered data points and generate output predictions. A local model fitting technique is then applied, where a lightweight regression model approximates the decision boundary of the original AI system, making its decision process more understandable to users.
Feature importance visualization highlights the contribution of different input variables to model predictions, allowing users to comprehend how specific data points influence AI-generated outputs. The system enhances transparency by integrating real-time analysis, offering actionable insights for industries that require rapid decision-making.
Unlike conventional AI explainability tools, this invention ensures seamless scalability, improved accuracy, and dynamic real-time feedback. The system is adaptable across diverse AI models, including deep learning networks, convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and transformer-based architectures. Additionally, the invention incorporates an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) that simplifies interpretability for non-expert users, increasing accessibility and usability.

It aims to make “LIME” explanations available for model interpretation in XAI systems. Users struggle to understand how deep neural networks reach decisions because these sophisticated machine learning models function as non-transparent systems. The absence of understandable explanations reduces trust among users most strongly in fields such as healthcare and finance where machine systems make key decisions.
The invention consists of a multi-layered framework designed to improve AI interpretability using LIME. The system follows a structured workflow comprising data perturbation, local model evaluation, and feature contribution analysis.
In the first phase, the system generates perturbed data instances by sampling new data points in the feature space around the given input. This process ensures that local variations are captured to improve the interpretability of AI model predictions. The black-box AI model processes these modified data points, generating prediction outputs for analysis.
Next, a simplified local model is trained using the generated dataset. The system employs a lightweight regression algorithm that approximates the decision boundaries of the black-box AI model within the localized region of interest. This allows users to gain an intuitive understanding of the model’s decision-making process without needing to interpret complex deep learning architectures directly.
The system then visualizes the importance of each input feature in determining the final model output. The feature contribution analysis is displayed through interactive graphs, heat maps, and summary reports, providing users with an intuitive and detailed explanation of model decisions.
A key innovation of this invention is its ability to operate in real-time while maintaining computational efficiency. The framework utilizes parallel processing and optimized data sampling techniques to ensure that explanations are generated instantly, making it suitable for high-frequency decision-making applications.
The invention also incorporates an adaptive learning mechanism, where user interactions and feedback are utilized to refine explanations over time. By continuously learning from new data and user interactions, the system improves the accuracy and relevance of its explanations.
The proposed system is highly adaptable and can be deployed in various industries, including healthcare, finance, and legal sectors. In healthcare, for instance, the system can provide explainable AI insights for medical diagnosis models, ensuring transparency in patient treatment recommendations. In finance, it can enhance fraud detection models by offering interpretable justifications for flagged transactions.
Security and data privacy are also considered in the design of the system. The invention incorporates encryption protocols and access control mechanisms to safeguard sensitive information while ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
By integrating real-time interpretability, improved computational efficiency, and user-centric design, this invention revolutionizes AI transparency and decision-making clarity.
