Method And System Higher Dimensional Measurement Device Independent Quantum Key Distribution

Abstract: “METHOD AND SYSTEM HIGHER DIMENSIONAL MEASUREMENT DEVICE INDEPENDENT QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION” The present invention describes a procedure for high-dimensional MDI-QKD with 5 the objective of increasing the secret key rate. In this procedure, a first client device randomly selects time and phase basis states from a set of at least four-dimensional time basis states and generates atleast one weak coherent photon pulse corresponding to the selected state. A first sequence of qudits is then formed, comprising a single time-encoded qudit and vacuum qudits for the non-selected 10 time bins. This sequence is transmitted to a measurement device. Similarly, a second client device transmits its own qudit sequence. The measurement device receives the sequences from both clients and performs correlation measurement using level-d coincidences to identify the time slotsfor which valid detection events occurred. A response indicating these coincidences is generated and shared with the 15 client devices for further key generation. The secret key rate scales as 2.(d-1)/d.log2(d), for the d-dimensional version of HD-MDI-QKD, which offers a favourable scaling when compared to some of the popular versions of prepare and measure HD-QKD protocol. 20 Figs. 9 and 10
