Diesel Engine

Abstract: Provided is a diesel engine capable of exhaust purification by using an SCR catalyst even during non-load or low-load operation, without using a large amount of power. In the present invention, control of an electronic control device: starts a temperature raising process of an SCR catalyst if a start condition has been satisfied in which an SCR inlet-side exhaust temperature T4 of the SCR catalyst is lower than or equal to a prescribed low temperature determination temperature TA; ends the temperature raising process of the SCR catalyst if an end condition has been satisfied in which the SCR inlet-side exhaust temperature T4 of the SCR catalyst is higher than or equal to a prescribed SCR temperature raising end determination temperature TC; and restarts the temperature raising process of the SCR catalyst if the start condition has been satisfied again. In the temperature raising process of the SCR catalyst, S2 is performed to reduce an exhaust throttle valve opening, and if a valve upstream-side exhaust temperature T0 of the exhaust throttle valve has become higher than or equal to a prescribed after-injection permitted temperature TB, S5 is performed to start after-injection from a fuel injector
