Exhaust After Treatment System For A Vehicle

Abstract: EXHAUST AFTER-TREATMENT SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE ABSTRACT An exhaust after-treatment system (100) for a vehicle (102) is disclosed. The exhaust after-treatment system (100) comprising an inlet pipe (106) fluidly connected to an internal combustion engine (104) and configured to receive exhaust gases generated by the internal combustion engine (104), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) (108) fluidly to oxidize hydrocarbons (THC) and carbon monoxide (CO), a diesel particulate filter (DPF) (110) to filter particulate matter (PM) from the exhaust gases, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit (112) to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) using a urea-based reductant, a downstream SCR unit (114) integrated with an ammonia slip catalyst (ASC) (118), a housing (116) configured to accommodate the DOC (108), the DPF (110), the SCR unit, and the downstream SCR unit (114) in a U-shaped exhaust flow configuration. The exhaust gases are redirected in a U-shaped flow path from the DPF (110) toward the SCR unit. <>

Specification

Description:EXHAUST AFTER-TREATMENT SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] This invention generally relates to a field of an exhaust system for vehicles, and in particular, to an exhaust after-treatment system for a vehicle and method thereof.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The subject matter discussed in the background section should not be assumed to be prior art merely as a result of its mention in the background section. Similarly, a problem mentioned in the background section or associated with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed to have been previously recognized in the prior art. The subject matter in the background section merely represents different approaches, which in and of themselves may also correspond to implementations of the claimed technology.
[0003] Exhaust After-Treatment Systems (EATS) are widely employed in heavy-duty vehicles to reduce harmful exhaust emissions and ensure compliance with increasingly stringent emission regulations. Such systems typically include , Claims:We Claim:
1. An exhaust after-treatment system (100) for a vehicle (102), the vehicle (102) comprising an internal combustion engine (104) configured to generate exhaust gases, the exhaust after-treatment system (100) comprising:
an inlet pipe (106) fluidly connected to the internal combustion engine (104) and configured to receive exhaust gases generated by the internal combustion engine (104);
a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) (108) fluidly coupled to the inlet pipe (106) and configured to oxidize hydrocarbons (THC) and carbon monoxide (CO);
a diesel particulate filter (DPF) (110) fluidly coupled downstream of the DOC (108) and configured to filter particulate matter (PM) from the exhaust gases;
a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit (112) fluidly coupled downstream of the DPF (110) and configured to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) using a urea-based reductant;
a downstream SCR unit (114) integrated with an ammonia slip catalyst (ASC) (118) and fluidly coupled downstream of the SCR unit; and
a housing (116
