Abstract: INLINE CAVITY HYDRAULIC RESONATOR FOR NOISE AND VIBRATION REDUCTION IN VEHICLE STEERING SYSTEMS ABSTRACT An inline cavity hydraulic resonator (100) for noise and vibration reduction in vehicle steering systems comprising a hydraulic conduit (102) configured to carry pressurized hydraulic fluid. Further, a cavity resonator (100) connected to the hydraulic conduit (102) and arranged inline or through a branch connection. Further, the cavity resonator (100) comprises an enclosed cavity (108) having a wide, neckless inlet opening directly exposed to pressure fluctuations in the hydraulic conduit (102). Further, when pressure pulsation waves propagate through the hydraulic conduit (102) and enter the cavity resonator (100), the hydraulic fluid within the cavity undergoes oscillatory motion that generates pressure waves out of phase with the incoming pulsation waves to cause destructive interference and results in a significant reduction of pulsation amplitude, vibration, and acoustic noise within the hydraulic line without adversely affecting normal fluid flow.
1. An inline cavity hydraulic resonator (100) for noise and vibration reduction in vehicle steering systems comprising: a hydraulic conduit (102) configured to carry pressurized hydraulic fluid; a cavity resonator (100) connected to the hydraulic conduit (102) and arranged inline or through a branch connection, wherein the cavity resonator (100) comprises an enclosed cavity (108) having a wide, neckless inlet opening directly exposed to pressure fluctuations in the hydraulic conduit (102), wherein the enclosed cavity (108) is dimensioned and tuned to correspond to a dominant pressure pulsation frequency of a hydraulic system, wherein when pressure pulsation waves propagate through the hydraulic conduit (102) and enter the cavity resonator (100), the hydraulic fluid within the cavity undergoes oscillatory motion that generates pressure waves out of phase with the incoming pulsation waves to cause destructive interference and results in a significant reduction of pulsation amplitude, vibration,
