Description:TECHNICAL FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention is related to the field of mechanical engineering. More specifically, it relates to a battery powered tilling machine.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The background information herein below relates to the present disclosure but is not necessarily prior art.
The current or say existing way of weeding is doing it by conventional methods using heavy tools or by using a diesel engine Powered tiller. Generally, the method of using a diesel engine Powered tiller incorporate some type of long handle and are used by rolling or pushing the device along the ground and with the operator in an upright position. The mechanical designs are difficult to maneuver in small spaces also they inherently require substantial power and are heavy in weight. The digging elements have normally been cast or formed of heavy construction. An objective review of the prior art shows that none of the prior art devices are light in weight. Furthermore, the prior art of engine Powered tiller shows that small farmers sometimes find it difficult to use as it is engine driven and there is involvement of clutches. Also, main drawback of fuel operated tiller is that it causes pollution. Due to concerns regarding air pollution, as well as other factors, electric outdoor power equipment has been gaining in popularity.
This has given us an idea to create a Battery-Powered tiller. The disadvantages of a diesel engine operated tiller can get overcome by this creation. Being light weighted, being less expensive than other weeding machines and also with high working efficiency, this machine can ease a lot of work for a farmer.
JP2006115777A related to an electric tiller that solves the problems of conventional electric tillers that control the rotation of a motor simply by on-off operation and fail in sufficient response to various works having different loads and quick movement of the tiller, and has a compact structure to prevent obstruction of work in the case of constituting a speed-changing operation tool. A plate member connected with the right and left handle frames of the tiller is provided with a dial setter, and the set position of the dial setter is inputted to a controller to change the rotational output of the electric motor according to the set position. The gear transmitter is provided with a speed-changing device to change the rotational speed of the electric motor to a vehicle speed suitable for travelling.
JP2012110346A describes how to easily confirm the operating condition of an electric tiller. The electric tiller includes a plurality of LEDs. The plurality of LEDs is arranged parallel in one place and configured to emit light when it is detected that a power switch is turned on, when an overload in the tilling work is detected, or when it is detected that the battery value is a preset value or lower. With this structure, it is easy for a worker to constantly confirm the operation condition while carrying out the tilling work by holding grips and rotating tilling tines.
CN202488959U related to the utility model discloses a rechargeable electric rotary cultivator, which solves the problem that the existing rotary cultivator cannot be applied to emergent service at anytime and anywhere due to the demand for alternating current transformation or the use of energy sources such as gasoline, diesel, and the like. The rechargeable electric rotary cultivator employs a battery pack as a power source, which is connected, via a voltage control circuit, to a direct-current motor; the direct-current motor is connected to a power output variable-speed clutch device through a transmission; the power output variable-speed clutch device is connected to a travelling wheel and a rotary cultivator tool rest; and the voltage control circuit is further connected to a power control handle and a master power switch.
US8991514B2 discloses that a cultivator may include at least one rechargeable battery for an electrical power tool as a power source. At least one rechargeable battery may include a plurality of rechargeable batteries. Further, the plurality of rechargeable batteries may be switched in sequence so as to be used as the power source.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly the following invention provides a battery powered tilling machine. A battery powered tiller that we made is a good choice for a farmer when he has to deal with unwanted plants in his field. It is a farming machine that is mainly used for weeding and cultivating the land. It works effectively as it can reverse and cut soil simultaneously. It has made agriculture accessible to farmers by reducing the need for tractors and rotators. It not only improves soil aeration and eliminates weeds but also maintains soil moisture levels, stimulates microorganisms to become more active, and also develops the provision of nutrients in the soil. The main objective of the invention is to provide a cost-effective solution to the weeding problem. As we can see, there are the majority of power tillers in the Indian market that have their power source as fuel (diesel), and using fuel as a source generally adds up to maintenance costs, also leads to air pollution, and has a lot of recurring costs.
A battery as a power source not only reduces overall maintenance but also helps to attain benefits over the disadvantages faced while using a fuel-operated tiller. The complex fuel-operated system of a power tiller was replaced with a simple battery operated system and accordingly, design calculations of various parameters of different components were done. This machine will help increase farming efficiency by reducing human efforts, as it is designed with respect for a layman and not just for a skilled worker. Also, it will not exhaust gases into the environment thus avoiding pollution. The overall initial cost and operating cost of power tillers, which are found to be considerably higher will also be reduced. So, battery powered tillers are fulfilling the promise of helping our farmers with this type of technology.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As used in the description herein and throughout the claims that follow, the meaning of “a,” “an,” and “the” includes plural reference unless the context
clearly dictates otherwise. Also, as used in the description herein, the meaning of “in” includes “in” and “on” unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
The present invention is related to a battery powered tilling machine. Weed-cutting is one of the most troublesome phenomena in agricultural production. By using this invention, which is a battery-powered tiller, a farmer can easily cut these weeds and cultivate his land with reduced human efforts and a noticeable reduction in time. As this tiller runs on a battery, it will cause less pollution than the diesel-powered tiller. For the purpose of design calculations, the assembly is divided into sections, which will be designed with due consideration to constraints.
Tilling is one of the most important processes in agriculture. Pre-plantation and post-plantation tilling are generally performed by farmers to avoid the growth of unwanted weeds in their crops. Battery powered tiller will allow the farmer to operate on the farms with maximum flexibility, allowing the farmer to have a certain degree of freedom during plantations. Operation of the tiller is simple; an ignition key switch is provided on the tiller.
Once the switch is turned on, the system is activated. An accelerator is provided on the handle, which allows the farmer to operate the tiller (forward/reverse, slow/fast) accordingly. Since an electric motor is used, changing the speed of the tiller is quite easy, and flexibility is obtained while tilling. Operating specifications such as battery percentage, current drain, speed, time, etc. can be viewed on the display unit of the tiller.
In the present invention the following design requirements are required:
Tilling Section:
• Tines or Blade: The tine assembly is the most important component of the proposed battery-operated tiller. The material for the blade to be selected for the weeding action was to be the one that could easily churn the soil to its required tilling depth while adhering to it. Thus, spring steel was chosen, which was pre-treated through hardening and normalizing.
• Tines Specifications: -
Blade Length = 600 mm Blade Width = 50 mm
Angle of bending = 150 Thickness = 10 mm
• Angle of Penetration/Depth Adjustment: Taking into consideration different soil patterns, we have designed a tilling blade and its mounting, which will allow the blade to perform tilling operations precisely at an angle of 15 degrees from the ground level. This certain angle allows the tiller to cut through soil at maximum depth without exceeding the load barrier for the drive terrain. The tilling depth can be adjusted by a selection rod, which is mounted on the side of the tiller.
• Tilling Width: The allowable tilling width was a major factor in selecting the length of the shaft on which the drive terrain was to be accommodated. The shaft length allowed 300mm of tilling width, which allows farmers to perform multi-cropping and have inter-cultivation, which allows higher yields and profit margins.
Power Transmission Section: In order to transmit the power, the transmission assembly is mounted at the centre of the shaft. A 2-step torque-speed reduction gear box is installed to obtain uniform torque for drive terrain. A belt drive is used for transmission from the motor to gearbox 1, and a chain drive is used from gearbox 2 to the drive shaft. This type of transmission system allows for proper transmission with minimum losses and also accounts for compensation for any errors in the system.
Power Source Section:
• Electric Motor: The requirement of high torque will serve the purpose to choose a motor of high torque and medium RPM. So, an electric motor having following parameters was selected-
Voltage = 48V
Speed = 1440 RPM
Output = 1000W
• Battery: The battery for this machine should provide sufficient ampere hour (Ah) of working, since though it’s an intermittent operation the dropping characteristic of voltage should compensate the same. Hence, we have selected rechargeable lead battery that satisfies every requirement for our tiller. 4 batteries are used in series, each providing 12Volts of current. These 4 batteries are able to run the tiller for about 4-5 hours. The operating voltage obtained from the batteries will be 48 volts.
Structure: The fabrication of various parts like the upper frame, including the handle, cover, transmission clamp, gearbox mountings, battery clamp, etc., was done. The lower frame, which is supported by the wheels, required the inner surface of the cover to be welded with a pipe joint in order to manoeuvre. For the fabrication of the cover, a 1 mm mild steel sheet was used, and for the handle, a mild steel round pipe was used. All these attachments are temporary, either by means of a nut and bolt, a grub screw, or an Ellen screw key. After the complete assembly, electric fitting is done, where a display monitor is attached to the electronic system in order to give consideration to aesthetic appearance and help in monitoring machine parameters (such as battery percentage, current drain, speed, etc.). The machine is then spray painted to make it rust-free.
While various embodiments of the present disclosure have been illustrated and described herein, it will be clear that the disclosure is not limited to these embodiments only. Numerous modifications, changes, variations, substitutions, and equivalents will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure, as described in the claims.
