This invention relates to a bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors comprising of an adaptor between ball joint and cross rod.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in Tractors and more specifically for adjustment of front wheel toe-in.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Cross rod in agriculture tractors is used to provide adjustment of Toe-in for front wheels. Toe is the symmetric angle that each wheel makes with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, as a function of static geometry, and kinematics and complaint effects. This can be contrasted with steer, which is the ant symmetric angle, i.e. both wheels point to the left or right, in parallel (roughly). Positive Toe, or Toe-in, is the front of the wheel pointing towards the centerline of the vehicle. Negative Toe, or Toe-out, is the front of the wheel pointing away from the centerline of the vehicle. Toe can be measured in linear units, at the front of the tire, or as an angular deflection.
Agricultural tractors have Toe-in and Toe settings affect three major areas of performance tire wear, straight-line stability and corner entry handling characteristics.
Cross rod is the link between the front tyres. The function of this cross rod is to keep the front wheel in the desired direction and transfer motion from steering gear of these wheels.
During motion, tractor holds the wheels in required direction. The design of this cross rod should be strong enough so that it should not fail during operation.
Cross rod is also used for adjusting Toe in position. If the cross rod is straight, adjustment can be done simply by rotating in required direction. But in case of bent cross rod, it is difficult to rotate the rod.
Normally, adjustment is done by removing cross rod from steering lever and then by rotating ball joint attached at the end of rod.
This process is time consuming and needs lot of efforts in removing and fixing cross rod.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in Tractors to have easy adjustment of Toe-in in agricultural tractors.
Another object of the present invention is to provide bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors to have Toe-in adjustment in minimum time.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors comprising of an adaptor between ball joint and cross rod.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows present invention.
Fig. 2 shows: Ball joint and Adaptor for Toe-in adjustment.
Fig. 3 shows: Adaptor for Toe-in adjustment and bent cross rod.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS;
This invention discloses bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors comprising of an adaptor in between ball joint and cross rod. With the help of this adaptor the adjustment can be done simply by rotating in required direction.
This eliminates the process of removing and fixing of Cross rod with Steering levers repeatedly for Toe in adjustment.
The Bent Cross Rod with Adaptor for adjustment is designed by keeping in mind the fatigue and discomfort which operator/mechanic will feel if there will be no adaptor for adjustment.
The Cross rod assembly is one of the major pivot points in the steering system. A cross rod is a slender structural unit used as a tie and capable of carrying tensile/compressive loads. It's a rod with "ball joints" at ends that connect to the steering arm or other linkage. When the steering wheel moves, the ball joints allow the wheels to turn.
Bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment is provided with the following components as shown in fig. 1.
1. Ball Joint - Front RH
For transmitting force during turning } & articulation
2. Ball Joint -Front LH
3. Lock Nut - RH R.H } For locking Ball joint with Rod
4. Lock Nut- RH L.H
5. Rod Steering Drag Link Cross } For transmitting force
6. Adaptor Link Assy- Steering Adj.} For adjustment of cross rod
by rotating clockwise & counter clock wise
1. Ball Joint- Front RH: It permits rotary movement in all directions through the movement of a ball in a socket. RH here indicates that this ball joint has Right hand threads.
2. Ball Joint- Front LH: It permits rotary movement in all directions through the movement of a ball in a socket. LH here indicates that this ball joint has Left hand threads.
3. Lock nut RH - This is used to lock the ball joint with adaptor in order to keep Cross rod assembly in required position and length. This nut has RH threads.
4. Lock nut LH - This is used to lock the ball joint with Rod Steering Drag Link Cross in order to keep Cross rod assembly in required position length. This nut has LH threads.
5. Rod Steering Drag Link Cross- This member transmits force and acts as link between two Ball joints.
6. Adaptor Link Assembly Steering Adjustment- This adaptor has RH threads at one end and LH threads on other end. For adjustment of cross rod, it is rotated Clockwise & counter clock wise to get the desired length of Rod assembly. Without this adaptor, it is very difficult and time consuming to adjust cross rod assembly.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
WE CLAIM:
1. A bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors comprising of an adaptor between ball joint and cross rod.
2. A bent cross rod as claimed in claim 1, wherein said adaptor helps in adjustment by rotating in required direction.
3. A bent cross rod with adaptor for adjustment in tractors substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
