Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention relates to a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof using an eco-friendly naturally occurring biopolymer, para phenylenediamine (pPD) and other constituents.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
There is a rapid growth of the personal care market sine 1940s due to socioeconomic changes combined with an increasing focus on personal activities, assisted by affordability of products. Hair colorants are important products in the market. A number of colorants by various companies are available in the market. The principle constituent in all of these products is para phenylene diamine (para diamino benzene) and normally present in not more than 3% after dilution, which is toxic and may harms the hairs and skin. The other ingredients in the different brands as mentioned on their respective packings are Herbal Heena, barium peroxide and citric acid in Black Rose Kali Mehandi and Amla, Briingraj, Methi, resorcinol or Heena, Hibiscus alongwith developer containing hydrogen peroxide releasing material in some other brands. No colorant using an eco-friendly naturally occurring biopolymer is available in the market.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to propose a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof using naturally occurring biopolymer such as guar gum powder.
Another object of this invention is to propose a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof with para phenylene diamine content of not more than 1% after dilution with water.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof using an eco-friendly, abundantly available naturally occurring biopolymer such as guar gum powder.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof which is less toxic and may not harm the hairs and skin.
Another object of this invention is to propose a black hair dye composition and a process for the preparation thereof which is cost effective.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a black hair dye composition comprising of 200 g dry bio polymer guar gum powder of 200 mesh size, 100 to 400g of finely powdered para phenylene diamine diluted to 1% with water in the dye solution made for applying on the hairs, barium peroxide (50g to 200g), anhydrous citric acid (50g to 200g), magnesium carbonate (5g to 50g) and anhydrous sodium sulphite (0.5g to l0g).

Further according to this invention there is provided a process for the preparation of black hair dye composition comprising steps of mixing of finely powdered anhydrous citric acid with finely powdered para phenylene diamine followed by guar gum powder as the base material, barium peroxide, citric acid, magnesium carbonate and anhydrous sodium sulphite in optimum proportions so that uniform distribution of all the dye components in guar gum powder is carried.
In accordance with the process of this invention, the finely powdered anhydrous citric acid was thoroughly mixed with the finely powdered para phenylene diamine a primary dye intermediate precursor which turns black on reaction with a peroxide such as barium peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. To this mixture was added guar gum powder of 200 mesh size, barium peroxide, magnesium carbonate and anhydrous sodium sulphite. The whole product was mixed thoroughly for the uniform distribution of all the components. Barium peroxide is an oxidizing agent which oxidizes para phenylene diamine to black colour dye products while citric acid is used to maintain the pH of the dye for its efficient performance. Magnesium carbonate is an excellent filler with good flowing property and acts as sequestering agent while sodium sulfite acts as an antioxidant which prevent the premature oxidation of para phenylene diamine.
Further object and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing example.

EXAMPLE
The powder guar gum an eco-friendly biopolymer, of 200 mesh size was used as the base material for the preparation of hair dye composition. The finely powdered anhydrous citric acid 50g to 200g was mixed thoroughly with finely powered para phenylene diamine 100 g to 400g. To this mixture was added 200g of dry guar gum powder, 50g to 200g of barium peroxide, 5g to 50g of magnesium carbonate and o.5 g to l0g of anhydrous sodium sulphite. The whole product obtained was thoroughly mixed for the uniform distribution of each component in the hair dye composition. The properties of the product obtained are as follows.
Major ingredients Eco-friendly natural biopolymer
(Guar gum)
Para Phyenylene Diamine Barium per oxide Anhydrous Citric acid
Minor ingredients Magnesium carbonate
Anhydrous Sodium sulphite
para Phenylene Diamine Not more than 1% after dilution
with water in the dye solution made for applying on the hairs
Water dilution 40 ml to 50 ml in Ig. of the dye
Shelf Life 4 years from the date
of manufacture
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims: -
