Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION .
The present invention relates to a bracket assembly of trunk lid in automobile
to prevent noise during operation thereof. The invention involves an
' . opening/closing mechanism particularly a torsion bar type opening/closing
mechanism for a swingably openable trunk lid of motor vehicle.
BACKGROUND1 PRIOR ART
Generally, a trunk lid is mounted with an automobile at rear. Connectivity
between the trunk lid and vehicle body can be' established by various
mechanism, namely spring, direct and link type mechanism. As illustrated in
figure 1 and 2 the trunk lid (T) is connected to body structure of vehicle (B) by
means of a hinged assembly (M) at both ends.
Each hinged assembly (M) includes a hinge bracket (1) and a hinge arm (4).
Thus, the hinged assembly is constituted by a hinge bracket 1 with its surfaces
2 & 3 rigidly connected to body structure through nuts & bolts, a hinge arm 4
rotably connected to the hinge bracket 1 through pin 5 and fixed at other side
to a bottom side of trunk lid (T) at surface 6, and a torsion bar 7 mounted on
the hinge arm 4 at hole 8 and making contact with the hinge bracket 1 at
surfaces 9 &lo.
The torsion bar is connected to the hinge bracket at one end on one side and
hinge arm at other end on other side. Thus, said trunk lid is supportive!y
hinged at rear for opening and closing the trunk room.
Now, reference may be made to fig 3 and 4, wherein various positions of torsion
bar 7 are shown during operation (opening/closing) of Trunk Lid (T) indicating;
extreme positions (71, 72) of the torsion bar (7) and extreme positions (41, 42)
of the hinge arm (4) in the course of opening and closing of said trunk lid. As i
,, , .. , , illustrated in FIG 4, during the .operation of trunk lid, the radial motion of
., ,, torsion bar 7, caused by motion of hinge arm 4, results in its lateral & angular
movement with respect to surfaces 9 & 10 of hinge bracket 1. This relative
motion between torsion bar 7 & hinge bracket 1 during operation of trunk lid
(T) results in generation of unwarranted noise due to high friction
therebetween.
Further, the contact surface of the bracket establishing contact with the
torsion bar is sharp (S) as shown in fig 4A due to manufacturing constraints
thereby adding to friction together with metal-metal contact.
Now reference may be made .to the patent KR 10090 1289. According to this a

The support holder is assembled with a steel bracket. The torsion bar holder
comprises a two piece plastic auxiliary bracket, which is having inner part with
multitude of slots to house a plurality of protrusion of torsion bar. So that, the
inner part moves in dynamic condition of vehicle and the outer part remains .
stationary. This provision involving link mechanism avoids paint chipping of
the torsion bar
However, the aforesaid technology can't serve the purpose of the present ,'
invention.
In view of the above, present invention has been proposed which can address

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE " .'
* I
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
. . The instant invention imparts teaching regarding a bracket assembly of trunk .,: ( ' '
lid in automobile so as to avoid creation of noise while operating the trunk lid.
The present invention involves direct type mechanism for mounting trunk lid
on the rear of vehicle. . .
In order to avoid metal-metal contact between the hinge bracket and torsion
I _ -
bar, a non-metallic auxiliary bracket is interposed therebetween. I,
t' - 3.
Now, reference may be made to fig 5 and 6. The non-metallic auxiliary bracket . '.
(A) is detachably mounted on the metallic hinge bracket (Al) of the present
invention by means of fasteners (1B) such as bolt.
The auxiliary bracket is made of a rigid and self lubricated material such as
resin. The auxiliary bracket forms a single structure that has integrally built
sleeves (2B and 3B) to act as resting surface for the torsion bar. The sleeves are
externally lubricated and cover the surfaces (4B and 5B) of the hinge bracket
respectively.
This in turn effectively eliminates any contact of the torsion bar (7) with the
surface (4B and 5B) of the hinge bracket to reduce friction therebetween.
Further, the auxiliary bracket is provided with a plurality of through holes (6B)
for fastening with the hinge bracket by fasteners such as bolts (1B).
Also, there is provision of multitude of cuts (7B) on one side and a protrusion
(8B) on both sides to be intact with the corresponding slot (9B and 10B)
respectively of the hinge bracket (Al) during assembly.
Now, reference may be made to fig 7, 8 and 9, from which it can be observed
that the contact surface (Sf) of the auxiliary bracket with the torsion bar is
smooth by the provision of a smooth curve to the same i.e. to the sleeve's of the
auxiliary bracket. This further reduces the friction. However in order to
accommodate the auxiliary bracket, end portion of the hinge bracket is
curtailed as shown.
Thus, the newly devised assembly of auxiliary bracket and hinge bracket has
the effect of substituting metal-metal contact between torsion bar & hinge
bracket with metal-non metal contact between torsion bar & auxiliary bracket.
The .torsion bar now moves relative to lubricated sleeves of auxiliary bracket,
instead of surfaces (9' & 10) of hinge bracket (1)) during opening & closing the
trunk lid, thereby preventing the noise from being generated.
As apparent from the foregoing, there is an advantage in the hinge structure of
trunk lid for automobile thus described according to the present invention in
that a non-metallic bracket with lubricated sleeves is mounted on hinge
bracket to eliminate direct contact of torsion bar & hinge bracket, thereby
preventing the unwarranted noise being generated during opening and closing
of the trunk lid. Thus, the operational effect of the present invention is
achieved by the aforesaid provision
