Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
Present invention in general related to preheating and post heating of
pipes/plates and components during welding. More particularly this
invention is related to equalizing oxygen and LPG. It is also related to a
burner flame arrangement for equal flow of LPG & oxygen gas in the outlet.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Background description includes information that may be helpful in
understanding the present subject matter.
Manufacturing of components required for steam generator involves
welding of low alloy steels, stainless steels and such other materials. Prior
to welding of pipes and plates of low alloy steels having different percentage
of chromium and molybdenum alloying elements, preheating the weld area
is required to ensure proper penetration of metal because the base material
starts out at an elevated temperature. Similarly, immediately after welding,
post heating is required depending upon the type and thickness of materials.
This preheating and post heating processes require a burner assembly. In
the exiting method of preheating, only Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is
used with atmospheric air to attain the desired temperature. The
consumption of gas is more and also the time required for welding is high.
In order to save fuel and also to quickly obtain the desired heating
temperature in preheating and post heating process, there is a need to
develop an alternate heating arrangement for welding the materials.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore primary object of the invention to solve above mentioned
problems existing in present practice by providing a heating arrangement
for equal flame distribution so that the desired heating temperature is
reached in lesser time and with lesser LPG consumption.

Another object of the invention is to provide equal supply of oxygen and
LPG through a gas mix pipe.
Yet another object of the invention is to make the heating arrangement
portable.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is therefore intended to solve one or more of the
above problems by providing a device arrangement for preheating and post
heating while welding of pipes, plates and other such components.
Regulating valves are fitted in both Oxygen and LPG lines to regulate the
flow of Oxygen and LPG respectively to a gas pipe. A flashback arrester is
fixed in the down streams of LPG pipe and oxygen pipe to prevent any fire
accident. The LPG pipe line and oxygen gas line are connected to the
mixing pipe. At end, mixing pipe is connected to a nozzle connecter with
help of a connector. The nozzle is screwed to the nozzle connecter. The
nozzle connecting sleeve is welded with four numbers of dividing arm
equally spaced on the circumference of the nozzle connecting sleeve. The
female thread of the nozzle connecting sleeve is screwed into the male
thread of the nozzle connecter. The burner cup fitted with lock nut is inserted
into the mixing gas pipe and locked by means of burner cup lock screw. The
bottom plate is welded with support leg and the mixing pipe is held by a
clamp screw to hold the complete assembly. The mixing pipe can be
clamped at desired position and at required angle. The inner sleeve can be
raised or lowered in the outer support leg and can be locked with clamp
screw.
By adjusting the oxygen regulating valve and LPG regulating valve, suitable
mixture of LPG and Oxygen flows in the mixing pipe and at the end of the
dividing arm, the flame is lighted up by a lighter. The flame is adjusted by
regulating the valves. Because of the dividing arm provided at the end of
nozzle, the flame is distributed equally on all sides. This also ensures

effective & concentrated flame towards the preheating area and post
heating area with the help of burner cup fitted to the mixing pipe.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The illustrated embodiments of the subject matter will be best understood
by reference to the drawings, wherein like parts are designated by like
numerals throughout. The following description is intended only by way of
example, and simply illustrates certain selected embodiments of apparatus
that are consistent with the subject matter as claimed herein.
Figure 1 illustrates assembled component of the proposed device.
Figure 2 illustrates assembly of the flame divider.
Figure 3 illustrates connecter with nozzle fitted.
Figure 4 illustrates sub parts of nozzle connecting sleeve with four dividing
arms welded on the sleeve.
Figure 5 illustrates schematic view of the burner cup.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
While the embodiments of the disclosure are subject to various
modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiment thereof have been
shown by way of example in the figures and will be described below. It
should be understood, however, that it is not intended to limit the disclosure
to the particular forms disclosed, but on the contrary, the disclosure is to
cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternative falling within the scope
of the disclosure.
Referring to fig.1, an oxygen pipe (03) fitted with an oxygen regulating valve
(13) and a LPG regulating valve (14) fitted in a gas pipe (04) to regulate flow
of LPG in the gas pipe. A flashback arrester (17) is fixed in the down streams
of the gas pipe (04) to prevent fire accident in case any fire occurs. The gas

pipe and the oxygen pipe are connected through a mixing pipe (05). There
is a burner cup (06) and a burner cup lock screw (07) fitted at the edge of
the mixing pipe (05) for provision of said dividing arm.
Referring to fig.3, is a nozzle connecter. At the end of the mixing pipe (05)
there is a nozzle connecter (23) connecting the gas pipe and the oxygen
pipe with the help of a connector (11). The nozzle (12) is screwed into the
nozzle connecter (23). The female thread of the nozzle connecter (23) is
screwed into the male thread of the nozzle (12).
Referring to figure 2, a nozzle connecting sleeve (09) is welded with a four
numbers of dividing arm (10) equally spaced on the circumference of the
nozzle connecting sleeve (09) of the connector (11).
Referring to fig.4 is the sub parts of nozzle connecting sleeve having the
four dividing arms (10) welded on the sleeve (09).
Referring to figure 5 and 6, illustrates a schematic view of the burner cup as
referred in the fig.1. The burner cup (06) fitted with lock nut (18) is inserted
into the mixing gas pipe (05) and locked by means of burner cup lock screw
(07).
Referring to figure 7, illustrates a supporting arrangement for the device. A
bottom plate (01) (as in fig1) is welded with a support leg (02) wherein, the
mixing pipe is held by a clamp (08) for holding the complete assembly. The
mixing pipe (5) can be clamped desired position by means of clamp (20)
and at required angle. An inner sleeve (19) can be raised or lowered in an
outer support leg (02) and locked with a clamp screw (22) (referring fig.1).
By adjusting the oxygen regulating valve (13) and the LPG line regulating
valve (14), suitable mixture of LPG and Oxygen flows in the mixing pipe (05)
and at the end of dividing arm (10), the flame is lighted up by a lighter. The
flame is adjusted by regulating the valves (13) and (14). Because of the
dividing arm (10) provided at end of the nozzle (12) the oxygen and LPG

mixer flame spreads equally on all sides and completely covers the
preheating area and post heating area with help of the burner cup (06) fitted
on the mixing pipe (05). Using this arrangement for flame distribution, for
the same duration of heating time, higher temperature is achieved on test
pieces. More over the consumption of the LPG is also reduced to 50%
because of mixing LPG with oxygen.

LPG consumption in Old Method: 2 kg/hour
LPG consumption in New Method: 1 kg/hour
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
One of the advantages of the invention is that the time required to attain the
relevant temperature during preheating and post heating is reduced
significantly.
Another advantage is that the consumption of the gas is also reduced to half
because of the mixing of LPG and oxygen together.
