A Calibration System For A Robotic Arm

Abstract: A calibration system 100 to calibrate at least one link of a robotic arm is provided. The calibration system 100 includes a calibration module 108, at least one notch 102, and at least one sensor 106. The calibration module 108 is stored in a programmable robot controlling unit. Further, an absolute reference position 104 of each link is determined and stored in the calibration module 108. The at least one notch 102 is provided on at least one link of the robotic arm on a predetermined distance from the absolute reference position 104. The at least one sensor 106 provided on at least one joint of the robotic arm to detect the notch 102. Upon detection of the notch 102, the calibration system 100 drives the link by the predetermined distance to achieve the absolute reference position 104.

DESC:A CALIBRATION SYSTEM FOR A ROBOTIC ARM ,CLAIMS:1. A calibration system (100) to calibrate at least one link of a robotic arm, the calibration system (100) comprising:
a calibration module stored in a programmable robot controlling unit; wherein an absolute reference position (104) of each link is determined and stored in the calibration module;
at least one notch (102) provided on at least one link of the robotic arm on a predetermined distance from the absolute reference position (104); and
at least one sensor (106) provided on at least one joint of the robotic arm to detect the notch;
wherein upon detection of the notch, the calibration system (100) drives the link by the predetermined distance to achieve the absolute reference position (104).

2. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the calibration system (100) is implemented for calibrating each link of the robotic arm individually.

3. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the calibration system (100) is implemented for calibrating all the links of the robotic arm collectively.

4. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the notch represents a relative reference position of respective link.

5. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the relative reference position is at a predetermined distance from the absolute reference position (104).

6. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein for each link of the robotic arm the predetermined distance is different.

7. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein for a rotating base housing the predetermine distance is around 77° about a central vertical axis.

8. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein for a shoulder link the predetermine distance is around 60° in X-Y plane.

9. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein for an elbow link the predetermine distance is around 37° in X-Y plane.

10. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the absolute reference position is determined by aligning each link about a central vertical axis of the robotic arm.

11. The calibration system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the programmable robot controlling unit drives a drive motor of each link.
