A Canister Purge System With An On/Off Solenoid

Abstract: A canister purge system 10 is described here, said system comprising a canister 102 downstream from a fuel tank 104, a Pulse Width Modulated solenoid (hereinafter PWM solenoid) 108 downstream from said canister 102 and upstream from an intake manifold 112, and a control unit. The system comprises an ON/OFF solenoid 106 downstream from said canister 102 and upstream from said PWM solenoid 108. The ON/OFF solenoid 106 is adapted to be operated by said control unit, said ON/OFF solenoid 106 openable to allow fumes in a direction towards said canister 102 on movement of a throttle valve 116 from a first position through a second position.

Specification

Claims:1. A canister purge system(10), said system comprising a canister (102)
downstream from a fuel tank (104), a Pulse Width Modulated solenoid
(hereinafter PWM solenoid) (108) downstream from said canister (102) and
upstream from an intake manifold (112), and a control unit, characterized
in that,
- an ON/OFF solenoid (106) downstream from said canister (102) and
upstream from said PWM solenoid (108), said ON/OFF solenoid (106)
adapted to be operated by said control unit, said ON/OFF solenoid
(106) openable to allow fumes in a direction towards said canister (102)
on movement of a throttle valve (116) from a first position through a
second position.
2. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein opening of
said ON/OFF solenoid (106) and said PWM solenoid (108) varies as per
load conditions of said engine.
3. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said canister
(102) is purged during intermediate to high load conditions of said engine.
4. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said
ON/OFF solenoid (106) is open when said engine is operating at
intermediate and high load.
5. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said
ON/OFF solenoid (106) is closed when said throttle valve (116) is opened
till a first position.
6. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first
position is a position at which said engine is operating at low load and said
throttle valve (116) starts opening.
7. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control
unit regulates the opening and closing of the ON/OFF solenoid (106) and
PWM solenoid (108).
8. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said system
is implemented for a vehicle selected from a group comprising a
motorcycle, a scooter, an auto-rickshaw, and a vehicle with at least four
wheels.
9. The canister purge system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said system
is implemented for a hand-held engine operated power tool. , Description:A canister purge system 10 is described here, said system comprising a
canister 102 downstream from a fuel tank 104, a Pulse Width Modulated
solenoid (hereinafter PWM solenoid) 108 downstream from said canister 102
and upstream from an intake manifold 112, and a control unit. The system
comprises an ON/OFF solenoid 106 downstream from said canister 102 and
upstream from said PWM solenoid 108. The ON/OFF solenoid 106 is adapted
to be operated by said control unit, said ON/OFF solenoid 106 openable to
allow fumes in a direction towards said canister 102 on movement of a throttle
valve 116 from a first position through a second position.
