Abstract: A CHAMFERING AND COLLAR CUTTING DEVICE FOR WATCH HANDS The present invention relates to a system and method for chamfering and collar cutting of watch hands without any defect. Comprises base with column mounted vertically on the base to provide support to the cutting operation characterized in that table with its top surface is accurately machined and strip feeder and strip holding bed is clamped on to it to giver given motions in up down directions to the clamped strip. Pneumatic Strip feeder operated using pneumatic cylinders.and is adjusted to a certain pitch so that each time when the strip feeder feeds the strip it moves repeatedly the exact same pitch characterized in that pull type strip feeders. The strip holding bed characterized in that of two polyurethane rubber pads mounted on the table. The brass strip is fed by a coiler, which holds the coil of strip and is then passed through the strip holding bed which is mounted on the machine table and the sfrip exists through the pneumatic strip feeder.

[001] The present invention relates to the field of watch hands. The present
invention in particular relates to a system and method for chamfering and collar
cutting in watch hand manufacturing.
5 DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART:
[002] Chamfering removes the burrs and sharp edges in watch hands. Chamfering
can be done by a form tool having angle equal to chamfer which is generally kept .
at 45°. Collar cutting process is levelling collar height and removing of excess
height of Watch hands collar.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
[028] The present invention provides a system and method for cchamfering and
collar cutting of watch hands without any defect. The device comprises base I, table
I 0 2, ve1tical column 3, pneumatic strip feeder 4, strip holding bed 5, two spindles 6,
servo motor 7, collar cutting tool 8, chamfering tool 9, strip 10, and control panel
consisting operating functions, power button, and digital display controlled by
control panel (Fig I).

[029] Base gives support and rigidity to the machine and also acts as a reservoir for
the cutting fluids. The column is the main supporting frame mounted vertically
on the base. The column is box shaped, heavily ribbed inside and houses the entire
servo mechanisms for the spindle and table feed. The table is mounted on to the
column and is fixed on to the column. It provides support to the cutting operation.
The table is made of cast iron, its top surface is accurately machined and strip feeder
20 and strip holding bed is clamped on to it. Hence the strip clamped on to the table
given motions in up down directiofls.
[030] Pneumatic Strip feeder is used to feed brass strip to the cutt~ng action. This is
operated using pneumatic cylinders. The feeder is adjusted to a certain pitch so that
each time when the strip feeder feeds the strip it moves repeatedly the exact same

[031] The strip holding bed is mounted on the table. During the operation the brass
strip is passed through the strip holding bed and it clamps the brass strip firmly
while the cutting action takes place. This bed consists of 2 polyurethane rubber
pads, these pads acts as cushioning so that the strip won't get damaged. The
5 Chamfering and collar cutting machine consists of 2 spindles. These spindles are
mounted on screw rods so that the spindle head can be adjusted in X, Y & Z axis.
Spindles are connected to a motor which rotates the spindle to an RPM of 2700.
Spindle has separate tool holders .on which the Milling and chamfering tool are
mounded. Servo motor is used to control the Z axis accurate movement to perform
10 cutting operation. The servo motor and machine fully controlled by PLC unit.
Digital display displays keyed in values.
[032] The brass strip is fed by a coiler, which holds the coil of strip which is needed
to be chamfering and collar cutting operation. The strip is then passed through the
strip holding bed which is mounted on the machine table and the strip exists through
15 the pneumatic strip feeder.
[033] Once the machine is in switch on spindle are in random position, by operating
home button on digital display spindle are positioned to pre-determined position.
The rotating spindle head is adjusted in XY axis to locate the cutting action on the
brass strip collar at the desired location. The Z axis is adjusted to get the desired
20 depth of cut. Once the cutting is done the strip holding bed releases the brass strip
and the pneumatic strip feeder feeds Lhe brass strip to its next location. Once the
setting is correctly done the machine can be set to automatic mode so the above
mentioned process repeats continuously (fig 2 and 3).

[034] Numerous modifications and adaptations of the system of the present
invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and thus it is intended by
the appended claims to cover all such modifications and adaptations which fall
within the true spirit and scope of this invention.

WE CLAIM:
I. A chamfering and collar cutting device for watch hands comprises:
A base I with column 3 mounted vertically on the base 1_ to provide
support to the cutting operation characterized in that table 2 with its top
surface is accurately machined and strip feeder 4 and strip holding bed 5
clamped on to it to giver given motions in up down directions to the
clamped strip 10.
Pneumatic Strip feeder 4 operated usmg pneumatic cylinders and is
adjusted to a certain pitch so that each time when the strip feeder 4 feeds
the strip it moves repeatedly the exact same pitch characterized in that pull
type strip feeders.
The strip holding bed 5 characterized in that of two polyurethane rubber
pads mounted on the table 2.

action on the brass strip collar at the desired location; Z axis is adjusted to get
the desired depth of cut; once the cutting is done the strip holding bed releases
the brass strip and the· pneumatic strip feeder feeds the brass strip to its next
location; once the setting is correctly done the machine can be set to automatic
mode so the above mentioned process repeats continuously. ·
