Specification

TECHNICAL FIELD
[001] The subject matter described herein in general relates to the field of cosmetics and personal care, and in particular, relates to the field of cleansing compositions.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[002] The cleansing of skin with surfactant-based cleansing preparations has become a focus of great interest. Liquid cleansers are highly preferred because of convenience and non-messiness. Mild personal cleansers are desired to minimize skin irritation, dryness, etc. A personal cleansing product having both of these preferred characteristics would be very desirable. Liquid compositions containing oils are known for a variety of cosmetic as well as pharmaceutical end applications. High amount of oil present in such compositions significantly compromise foaming lathering of these compositions.
[003] To achieve high lather in the cleansing compositions high levels of thickening and gelling agents are added to them. Various such compositions have been reported. US4992476 discloses high oil loaded composition that comprises a mixture of oils in an amount of ranging from 55% to 75% along with anionic surfactant and an aqueous thickening agent based on natural gums, synthetic gums, gelling agents.
[004] US4338211 discloses a mild cleansing composition wherein high sudsing anionic surfactants have been used to achieve lather in the composition. The use of known high sudsing anionic surfactants with lather boosters yields acceptable lather volume. Unfortunately, the high sudsing anionic surfactants are, generally highest in skin irritation and are worst in clinical mildness. In short, mildness is often obtained at the expense of effective cleansing and lathering which may be sacrificed for either mildness, product stability, or both.
[005] Thus, it has been a challenge to make cleansing compositions, which is stable, and gives excellent lather without comprising expensive thickening and gelling agents.

Example 1
Process for preparation of cleansing composition:
[0069] A representative process for the preparation of the composition of the
present disclosure is described herein below:
[0070] The non-ionic surfactants were contacted with the at least one oil in a mixer
to obtain a first mixture. Subsequently, the anionic surfactants were contacted with
the first mixture, to obtain a second mixture. The amphoteric surfactants were
contacted with the second mixture, to obtain a third mixture. Water and the at least
one humectant were contacted with the third mixture, to obtain a fourth mixture,
and the at least one excipient was contacted with the fourth mixture and further
processed to obtain the composition. All the mixtures were obtained by contacting
the respective ingredients at a temperature in a range of 40-50°C and by maintaining
stirring at 80 -100 rpm. The same procedure was followed for preparation of
working and non-working examples.
[0071] In a variation of the process, non-ionic surfactant was combined with only
amphoteric surfactant. In yet another variant of the process, the non-ionic
surfactant was combined with only anionic surfactant.

** Stable EXAMPLE 2 NON- WORKING COMPSITIONS:
[0073] The following non-working examples clearly depict that weight 5 percentages of the ingredients are critical to obtain a cleansing composition. It is to be appreciated from the data presented in Tables 1, and 2 that the working examples 1-11 were found to perform well with respect to all parameters as they were found to have ingredients within prescribed limits. Variation of vegetable oil beyond the prescribed range of 6 - 16.5% with respect to the in the oil mix was
10 found to be detrimental. Moreover, if the weight ratio of total oil to the total surfactant was varied beyond the claimed range, adverse results were obtained. This was apparent from the negative results observed in Table 2 for Examples 12-14. It is clear from the Table 2 that the cleansing composition was obtained only when the critical ingredients were present within prescribed ranges which were
15 obtained from due experimentation.
