DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates with the field of braking system for automotive two wheeled vehicles, and more particularly it relates to a combined braking system for pedal brake with adjustable delay mechanism for two wheeled vehicles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] A brake is a mechanical device or apparatus in automobile vehicles, which inhibits motion by absorbing energy from the moving wheels of vehicle to decelerate the vehicle’s momentum for stopping of moving vehicle. A braking system plays a crucial role in the vehicles and providing auto safety in terms of prevention of road accidents, particularly for high-speed vehicles.
[0002] Since the earliest automobiles, a gradual development has been carried out to provide an improved braking systems and methods for automotive vehicles. Since ancient time, various kinds of brakes i.e. wooden block brakes, mechanical brakes, expanding internal shoe brakes, mechanical brakes, hydraulic brakes, disc brakes, anti-lock brakes etc. have been gradually developed to meet the requirements of braking mechanism of vehicles in automobile industry.
[0003] In last few decades, a gradual evolution in automobile industry is being carrying out to provide an efficient braking system than that of the existing one. In conventional mechanical drum-brake, the brake shoes are actuated by a cam, which is attached to the brake linkage and lever. The conventional mechanical drum-brake is defined to mean a braking system in which, when the brake lever is pressed, the cam turns that causes the brake shoes to expand outwards and rub against the drum. Friction between the brake linings and the drum causes the drum to stop rotating; thereby stopping the wheels. When the brake lever released, the retracting springs bring the brake shoes back to their original position. Thus, said mechanical drum brake provides a braking force by causing friction between the brake shoe with linings and drum by using a cable linked with the brake lever.
[0004] In prior art vehicle without combi brake, when the rear brake lever (on left handlebar in a scooter) or the brake pedal (foot-operated in a motorcycle) is operated, brake will be applied only on the rear wheel. If the force applied by the rider is high, the rear wheel would lock (because of reduction in rear wheel reaction due to weight transfer to the front during deceleration), leading to an accident.
[0005] In the prior art braking system slippery road conditions, gradual and light braking should be done only using combi brake. Severe braking using both brakes or only the front brake in such situations can cause locking of front wheel, and result in loss of control of the vehicle.
[0006] The conventional combined braking system, without delay mechanism, includes more number of moving elements which induces frictional force which results in reduced life of the components. Further, the conventional combined braking system is very complex in design and expensive.
[0007] Although, the conventional combined braking systems have been proved to be an advantageous, there is still scope to improve the functionality and performance of the braking system for inducing a customized variable braking force to both of the wheels, i.e. front brake wheel and rear brake wheel simultaneously, by using a single brake-actuating medium i.e. a hand brake lever or a brake lever. Hence, a need yet exists to switch the combined braking system having with an enhanced functionality and performance.
[0008] Therefore, it is desperately needed to develop a combined braking system for pedal brake with adjustable delay mechanism for two wheeled vehicles which overcomes the aforesaid drawbacks and limitations of the prior art braking systems.

[00021] Fig. 1 depicts a front perspective view of a combined braking system for pedal brake with adjustable delay mechanism for two wheeled vehicles according to a preferred embodiment of a present invention.
[00022] Fig. 2 depicts a front view of the combined braking system for pedal brake with adjustable delay mechanism for two wheeled vehicles according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
[00023] It should be noted that the figures are not drawn to scale and that elements of similar structures or functions are generally represented by like reference numerals for illustrative purposes throughout the figures. It also should be noted that the figures are only intended to facilitate the description of the preferred embodiments. The figures do not illustrate every aspect of the described embodiments and do not limit the scope of the present disclosure.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[00024] The nature of the invention and the manner in which it works is clearly described in the complete specification. The invention has various embodiments and they are clearly described in the following pages of the complete specification. Before explaining the present invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application.
[00025] Before explaining the present invention, it is to be understood that “a combined braking system” is a generic term commonly used for a braking system, which actuates front brake mechanism and rear brake mechanism simultaneously by using a single brake actuating means, such as a brake lever or a brake pedal.
[00026] Further, the term “delay mechanism”, hereinafter described, being used for delay braking of the front wheel, which enables an initial actuating of the rear brake mechanism and then after it manipulates the front brake mechanism to eliminate skidding of wheels of the vehicles. Further the term “adjustable delay mechanism”, hereinafter described, being used for adjusting time for delay braking of the front wheel as per requirement.
[00027] Referring to Fig.1, a front perspective view of a combined braking system for pedal brake with adjustable delay mechanism for two wheeled vehicles according to a preferred embodiment of a present invention is shown. The combined braking system (1) includes a brake pedal (2) having an upper rigid linkage (8) and a lower rigid linkage (11), a rear transmission link holder (6) that receives a rear brake transmission link (3), a front cable holder (7) that receives a front cable (4), a cam link (20) and a brake housing (10). The rear brake transmission link (3) may be rod or cable or any other transmission means.
[00028] Further referring to Fig.2 in connection with Fig.1, the brake pedal (2) having the upper rigid linkage (8) at frontward end thereof being upwardly extended in vertical manner and the lower rigid linkage (11) rigidly connected at frontward end being downwardly extended in inclined manner. The rear transmission link holder (6) pivotably connected to the upper rigid linkage (8) through a first hinge point (H1). The rear brake transmission link (3) being mechanically connected to the rear transmission link holder (6). The cam link (20) being pivotably mounted on the brake housing (10) through a pivot pin (25) and a spring (30). The cam link (20) is placed in the proximity to the lower rigid linkage (11). The front cable holder (7) being mechanically connected to the cam link (20) through a second hinge point (H2). The front brake cable (4) that is configured to be guided through a guiding means (9) being mechanically connected to the front cable holder (7).
[00029] A gap (X) between the lower rigid link (11) and cam link (20) is configured to act as an adjustable delay, that enables delay in braking of the front wheel as per requirement with respect to the rear wheel.
[00030] Now referring to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 collectively, an operational characteristics of the present invention is explained. When the brake pedal (2) is being pressed the rear transmission link holder (6) is configured to be pulled to apply the rear brake through the rear brake transmission link (3). During this braking the front brake cable (4) is not operated due to adjustable delay mechanism that is defined by the gap (X) between lower rigid link (11) and cam link (20). After completion of predefined delay, the lower rigid link (11) pushes the cam link (20) that actuates the front wheel brake (not shown in Fig.).
[00031] The invention has been explained in relation to specific embodiment. It is inferred that the foregoing description is only illustrative of the present invention and it is not intended that the invention be limited or restrictive thereto. Many other specific embodiments of the present invention will be apparent to one skilled in the art from the foregoing disclosure. The scope of the invention should therefore be determined not with reference to the above description but should be determined with reference to claims along with full scope of equivalents to which such claims are entitled.
