Field of the invention
[0001]This invention relates to the field of a common rail in a fuel injection system.
Background of the invention
[0002] Common rail is used in a fuel injection system to store fuel under pressure. Impurities present in fuel may cause damage to the components of common rail. Hence there is a need to purify fuel before the fuel enters the common rail.
[0003] Prior art patent application DE102009001564 discloses a throttle element for low-pressure circuit of common rail system of motor vehicle, that has filter element provided at section of throttle element, where section is provided upstream of throttle opening. The element has throttle body that comprises a throttle opening and a sealing section cooperating with a fuel channel, where a throttle element is provided with a filter i.e. screen filter, located upstream to the throttle opening. Another filter element is provided at a section of the throttle element, where the section is provided upstream of the throttle opening. Fuel stream flowing in a mainstream direction is discharged from the throttle element.
Brief description of the accompanying drawing
[0004] Different modes of the invention are disclosed in detail in the description and
illustrated in the accompanying drawing:
[0005] FIG. 1 illustrates a common rail in a fuel injection system.
Detailed description of the embodiments
[0006] FIG. 1 illustrates a common rail 100 in a fuel injection system. The common rail 100 is adapted to receive fuel from a high pressure fuel injection pump (not shown) via an inlet port 102. The inlet port 102 is adapted to house a filter 104, the filter 104 is designed to conform to inner diameter of the inlet port 102 and adapted to filter 104 and throttle fuel received from the high pressure fuel injection pump. In an embodiment the filter 104 may be an edge filter 104.
[0007]The construction of the common rail 100 will be explained in further detail. The common rail 100 disclosed herein is used to store fuel under pressure before the fuel is delivered to the fuel injectors (not shown) for injection into the engine cylinders. The fuel enters the common rail 100 from the fuel injection pump via the inlet port 102. The inlet port 102 is adapted to house a filter 104, the filter 104 is designed to conform to the inner diameter of the inlet port 102. The filter 104 comprises a throttle. The throttle may be in form of an opening in the filter 104, the diameter of the opening may be such that it restricts the flow of fuel and hence achieves throttling effect. Fuel flows via the throttle to reach the common rail 100. The common rail 100 comprises at least one outlet port 106, the outlet port opens into a fuel injector. The common rail 100 also comprises a backflow path 108 that is in flow communication with a fuel tank. The backflow path 108 is used to relieve pressure in the common rail 100 by allowing fuel to flow to the fuel tank.
[0008]During working fuel is pressurized in the high pressure fuel injection pump reaches the common rail via the inlet port 102. The inlet port 102 is adapted to house a filter 104, the filter 104 performs the following function. Firstly throttle fuel received at the inlet port 102 and secondly filter 104 the fuel in order to remove impurities and other particulates from the fuel. Hence, the fuel entering the common rail 100 is devoid of impurities. With the use of the above mentioned filter it is now possible to throttle the fuel in order to maintain pressure in the common rail 100 and also purify fuel before the fuel enters the common rail 100. This prevents damage to the components of the common rail 100 and also to the fuel injector.
[0009] ‘Adapted’ or ‘arranged’, in the context of the instant disclosure, refers to the technical capability or the technical capacity of a component, in relation to which the term ‘adapted’ or ‘arranged’ is used, to carry out or executed a specified action or actions, upon the requirement of the specified action or actions to be carried out or executed. Moreover, the usage of the term ‘adapted’ or ‘arranged’ here, is in reference
with the normal technical capability or technical capacity of the component, imparted by the design or the structure or the composition of the component, and not in reference with any special or extraneous capability or capacity, beyond the scope of the normal technical capability or technical capacity. Therefore there is a need to address this problem.
[0010]It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention in terms of the type of fuel injection pump used. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
