Abstract: This invention relates to a compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles under passenger seats adjacent to wall of the driver"s cab discharges conditioned air therein through a vertical duct wherein said air conditioner is provided with a plurality of apertures in its front side for return air and conditioned air; condenser air inlet opening is located on the top surface of said air conditioning unit and a removable return air filter cartridge is positioned in front of the return air aperture.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Driver cabs of rail vehicles are usually air conditioned with air conditioners located in the coach roof above the driver's cab. However, instead of providing separate air conditioner in the driver's cab, the driver's cab may be designed to receive conditioned air supplied from the air conditioner serving the passenger area.
The present invention offers a solution where no air conditioner can be fitted on the roof and no conditioned air can be drawn from the passenger area.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles which is simple in construction.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles which is efficient.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles under passenger seats adjacent to wall of the driver's cab discharges conditioned air therein through a vertical duct wherein said air conditioner is provided with a plurality of apertures in its front side for return air and conditioned air; condenser air inlet opening is located on the top surface of said air conditioning unit and a removable return air filter cartridge is positioned in front of the return air aperture.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows : a sectional side view of a typical installation. The air conditioner is located in the passenger saloon under a row of seats. The conditioned air is fed into a wall-mounted vertical supply air duct located in the driver's cab.
Fig. 2 shows : a top view showing a typical layout in a driver coach. The air conditioner is located in the passenger area under a row of seats. The conditioned air is fed into a supply air duct located in the driver's cab.
Fig. 3 shows: a top view of the air conditioner showing the condenser inlet grille as well as the openings for the flow of return air and supply air.
Fig. 4 shows: a top view similar to Fig. 3 illustrating the condenser fan slide-out.
Fig. 5 shows: a front view of the air conditioner illustrating the openings for the condenser air flow as well as the openings for return air and supply air.
Fig. 6 shows: a side view of the air conditioner illustrating the centrifugal fan arrangement for the conditioned air supply.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERNCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS;
According to the present invention, there is provided an air conditioning system comprising of a compact floor-mounted package air conditioning unit and a supply air duct.
As shown in fig. 1, the air conditioning unit (1) is located on the coach floor (2). Due to its compact design and low height, it can be fitted under a row of passenger seats (3) next to wall of the driver's cab (4). The conditioned air (6) is discharged into the driver's cab from a vertical duct (5). The condenser coil draws air (9) from the passenger area and discharges the hot air through an opening in the coach floor (11).
As shown in fig. 2, the air conditioner does not block any floor space in both the driver's cab (7) and the passenger saloon (8). It fits completely under a row of passengers seats.
As shown in fig. 3, the apertures for return air (13) and conditioned air (12) are located at the front side of the air conditioner. The condenser air inlet opening is located on the top surface of the air conditioning unit. A removable return air filter cartridge (14) is positioned in front of the return air aperture and can be accessed from the driver's cab. The return air (16) passes through the filter before it passes the heat exchangers provided for heating & cooling and gets discharged (15) from the conditioned air aperture.
Reference may be made to fig. 4 illustrating the service access to the axial fan (10) with the axial fan is extended out as it would be during servicing, cooling the condenser coil which is located on a horizontal sliding tray. In this way, the condenser fan assembly as well as the condenser coil can easily be accessed from the passenger area without any need to remove or dismantle the air conditioning unit.
Fig 5 illustrates the position of return air aperture (13) and conditioned air aperture (12) on the air conditioner's front surface and shows how the condenser air enters the air conditioner from the top (9) and gets discharged at the bottom (11).
Fig. 6 illustrates the position of the centrifugal fan (17) used to feed conditioned air through the cooling coil and into the supply air duct.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
WE CLAIM:
1. A compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles under passenger seats adjacent to wall of the driver's cab discharges conditioned air therein through a vertical duct wherein said air conditioner is provided with a plurality of apertures in its front side for return air and conditioned air; condenser air inlet opening is located on the top surface of said air conditioning unit and a removable return air filter cartridge is positioned in front of the return air aperture.
2. A compact floor-mounted package air conditioner as claimed in claim 1, wherein the return air passes through the filter before it passes the heat exchangers provided for heating and cooling and gets discharged from the conditioned air aperture.
3. A compact floor-mounted package air conditioner as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said air conditioner's condenser coil draws air from the passenger area and discharges the hot air through an opening in the coach floor.
4. A compact floor-mounted package air conditioner as claimed in any of the preceding claims comprising of a centrifugal fan to feed conditioned air through the cooling coil and into the supply air dust wherein condenser air enters the air conditioner from the top and gets discharged at the bottom.
5. A compact floor-mounted package air conditioner for driver cabs of rail vehicles substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
