A Composite Coating Comprising Fiber/Particle Reinforced Polyimide/Polyetherimide Matrix For Improved Corrosion Resistance And Methods Thereof

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a composite coating formulation comprising a short carbon fiber, carbon nanotube, polyaniline coated ceria particles, or a combination thereof as a reinforcing filler dispersed in a polyamic acid matrix. The composite coating formulation upon curing provides a composite coating comprising the reinforcing filler(s) dispersed in the polyimide/polyetherimide matrix. The composite coatings of the present disclosure show improved corrosion resistance and improved mechanical strength compared to polyimide/polyetherimide coatings without a reinforcing filler. The present disclosure also provides methods of preparing the coating formulation, methods of obtaining the composite coatings, and substrates comprising the composite coatings.
