A Composition Comprising Green Tea Extract And A Zinc Salt And Uses Thereof

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a composition comprising green tea extract, and a zinc salt mixture, optionally comprising a probiotic microorganism for promoting oral health by management of oral flora and function. The disclosure also provides for method for management of VSCs or VSCs producing microorganisms, and food products or supplements for promoting oral health.

DESC:A COMPOSITION COMPRISING GREEN TEA EXTRACT AND A ZINC SALT AND USES THEREOF ,CLAIMS:1. A composition for the management of microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein said composition comprises of green tea extract, and a zinc salt mixture.
2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein said composition inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms in the oral cavity selected from the group consisting of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Candida albicans.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein said composition reduces the concentration of volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs) produced by microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein the VSC is selected from the group consisting of ethanethiol, methanethiol, dimethyl sulphide, and dimethyl disulphide.
4. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the green tea extract has epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) content in the range of 20%-100%., preferably in the range of 35%-50%, most preferably 40%.
5. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the zinc salt mixture comprises of a zinc derivative and a pharmacologically inactive carrier or excipient or a diluent, wherein the zinc derivative is selected from the group consisting of zinc ascorbate, zinc gluconate, and zinc sulfate.
6. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of green tea extract is in the range of 0.01% - 0.15% and the concentration of zinc salt mixture is in the range of 0.005%-0.05%.
7. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of green tea extract is in the range of 0.05%-0.10% and the concentration of zinc compound is in the range of 0.01%-0.03%.
8. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of green tea extract is 0.05% and concentration of zinc compound is 0.03%.
9. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concentration of green tea extract is 0.1% and concentration of zinc compound is 0.03%.

A composition for the management of microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein said composition comprises of green tea extract, and a zinc salt mixture as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a Lactobacillus species selected from the group comprising of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus fermenthum, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paraplantarum, and Lactobacillus salivarius.

A composition for the management of microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein said composition comprises of green tea extract and a zinc salt mixture as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a Bifidobacterium species selected from the group comprising of Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium infantis, and Bifidobacterium longum.

A composition for the management of microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein said composition comprises of green tea extract and a zinc salt mixture as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a Saccharomyces species selected from the group comprising of Saccharomyces boulardii, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
13. A composition for the management of microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein said composition comprises of green tea extract and a zinc salt mixture as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a Bacillus species selected from the group comprising of Bacillus sporogenes, and Bacillus subtilis.
14. A food supplement or a food product comprising the composition as claimed in claim 1, 10, 11, 12 or 13, wherein the concentration of zinc salt mixture is in the range of 0.005%-0.05% and the concentration of green tea extract is in the range of 0.01% - 0.15%.
15. A method for management of VSCs or VSCs producing microorganisms in the oral cavity, wherein the method comprises oral administration to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a food supplement or a food product as claimed in claim 14, wherein the oral administration can be in the form of a liquid, or a compressed liquid, or a solid.
