Abstract: The present disclosure provides for eucalyptus extract prepared by various extraction methods, which shows efficacy in promoting hair growth, and inhibiting intracellular reactive oxygen species. The extracts find utility in preparing formulations for promoting hair growth.
DESC:A COMPOSITION COMPRISING EUCALYPTUS EXTRACT AND USES THEREOF ,CLAIMS:1. A composition comprising eucalyptus plant extract, wherein said extract promotes hair growth.
2. A composition comprising eucalyptus plant extract, wherein said extract inhibits intracellular reactive oxygen species formation.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1 or 2, further comprising suitable carriers, diluents, and excipients.
4. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-3, wherein said extract is prepared by a method selected from a method consisting of lyophilization, liquid preparation, and solvent extraction.
5. The composition as claimed in claim 4, wherein
a. said extract prepared by lyophilization method is obtained by:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. freeze drying said paste using a mixture of liquid nitrogen and acetone to obtain a frozen paste followed by lyophilization to obtain said extract, or
b. said extract prepared by liquid preparation method is obtained by:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with soy lecithin, glycerin, phenoxyethanol, xanthan gum, and deionized water to obtain said extract, wherein paste weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 7-12%, said soy lecithin weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.1-0.2%, said glycerin weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.2-0.6%, said phenoxyethanol weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 1-2%, said xanthan gum weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.3-0.6%, and water weight percentage is to make up to 100%; or
c. said extract prepared by solvent extraction is prepared by:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iii. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; or
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with methanol under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iii. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; or
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate, and a retentate;
iii. contacting said retentate with methanol under continuous stirring for at least 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iv. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; or
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with methanol under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate, and a retentate;
iii. contacting said retentate with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for at least 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iv. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract.
6. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-5 , wherein said eucalyptus plant extract weight concentration in said composition is in the range of 0.001-0.01%.
7. A method of promoting hair growth, said method comprising:
a. obtaining a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1, and 3-6; and
b. contacting said composition with hair follicles,
wherein said method promotes hair growth.
8. A method of inhibiting intracellular reactive oxygen species formation, said method comprising:
a. obtaining a composition as claimed in any of the claims 2, and 3-6; and
b. contacting said composition with a cell,
wherein said method inhibits reactive oxygen species formation in said cell.
9. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-6.
10. A composition as claimed in any of the claims 1, and 3-6 for use preparing topical formulations in promoting hair growth.
11. A method of preparing eucalyptus callus extract, said method selected from the group consisting of:
a. lyophilization method comprising the steps of:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. freeze drying said paste using a mixture of liquid nitrogen and acetone to obtain a frozen paste followed by lyophilization to obtain said extract; OR
b. liquid preparation method comprising the steps of:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with soy lecithin, glycerin, phenoxyethanol, xanthan gum, and deionized water to obtain said extract, wherein paste weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 7-12%, said soy lecithin weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.1-0.2%, said glycerin weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.2-0.6%, said phenoxyethanol weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 1-2%, said xanthan gum weight percentage in said extract is in the range of 0.3-0.6%, and water weight percentage is to make up to 100% to obtain said extract; OR
c. solvent extraction method comprising the steps of:
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iii. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; OR
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with methanol under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iii. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; OR
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate, and a retentate;
iii. contacting said retentate with methanol under continuous stirring for at least 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
iv. drying said filtrate to obtain said extract; OR
i. obtaining eucalyptus calli and contacting with at least one preservative, and at least one anti-oxidant to obtain a paste, wherein said at least one preservative weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.2-0.3%, and said at least one anti-oxidant weight percentage in said paste is in the range of 0.1-0.3%;
ii. contacting said paste with methanol under continuous stirring for 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate, and a retentate;
iii. contacting said retentate with dichloromethane under continuous stirring for at least 18-24 hours at ambient temperature followed by filtration to obtain a filtrate; and
