Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a composition comprising retinoic acid and wedelolactone which at specific w/w ratios enhances the expression levels of NOG, VEGF, and IGF-1 genes, thus promoting growth of hair. Also provided are the methods for preparation and uses thereof.
Claims:1. A composition for promoting hair growth, said composition comprising:
a) retinoic acid and salts thereof; and
b) wedelolactone,
wherein retinoic acid and salts thereof to wedelolactone w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:1.25 - 1:10.
2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein retinoic acid and salts thereof to wedelolactone w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:1.25 – 1:3.5.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein retinoic acid and salts thereof to wedelolactone w/w ratio in said composition is 1:1.5.
4. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-3, further comprising at least one carrier, at least one diluent, at least one excipient, and combinations thereof.
5. A method for preparing a composition as claimed in claim 1, said method comprising:
a) obtaining retinoic acid and salts thereof;
b) obtaining wedelolactone; and
c) contacting retinoic acid and salts thereof, and wedelolactone to obtain said composition.
6. A method for preparing a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, said method comprising:
a) obtaining retinoic acid and salts thereof;
b) obtaining wedelolactone;
c) obtaining at least one carrier;
d) obtaining at least one diluent;
e) obtaining at least one excipient; and
f) contacting retinoic acid and salts thereof, wedelolactone, the at least one carrier, the at least one diluent, and the at least one excipient to obtain said composition.
7. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, wherein said composition increases hair growth by increasing the expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) gene.
8. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, wherein said composition increases hair growth by increasing the expression of Noggin (NOG) gene.
9. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, wherein said composition increases hair growth by increasing the expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) gene.
10. A method for promoting hair growth, said method comprising:
a) obtaining a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4; and
b) contacting said composition with hair follicles,
wherein said composition promotes hair growth.
