Abstract: The present invention relates to a slag fluidizer composition. More particularly, the present invention relates to the slag fluidizer composition which comprises SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, Fe2O3 etc in particular ratio. Moreover this invention relates to the slag fluidizer composition which improves slag raking efficiency and reduces metal loss. Moreover this invention relates to the process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer composition.
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a slag fluidizer composition. More particularly, the
present invention relates to the slag fluidizer composition which comprises SiO2, Al2O3,
CaO, Fe2O3 etc in particular ratio. Moreover this invention relates to the slag fluidizer
composition which improves slag raking efficiency and reduces metal loss. Moreover
this invention relates to the process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer
composition.
Background of the invention and related prior Art
At present some of steel industries use fluidizers for fluidizing slag which is generated
by desulphurization of hot metal. The present invention relates to a new fluidizer that
has been invented which is an effective fluidizer used in iron and steel making has
several advantages. Soda Ash is one of the fluidizers used by the steel industry which
cause the following reaction to occur when added to the slag-
Na2CO3 → Na2O + CO2 (gas)
The process of the prior art is therefore less environment friendly and have high cost of
chemicals involved therein.
Summary of the invention
The present invention relates to a slag fluidizer composition. More particularly, the
present invention relates to the slag fluidizer composition which comprises SiO2, Al2O3,
CaO, Fe2O3 etc in particular ratio. Moreover this invention relates to the slag fluidizer
composition which improves slag raking efficiency and reduces metal loss. Moreover
this invention relates to the process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer
composition. This invention also relates to the method which has a plurality of
advantages of reasonable simple process, safe and reliable operation, no secondary
pollution, low cost.
Detailed description of the invention
The present invention is based on the slag fluidizer composition. The present invention
will be understood and its advantages more apparent in view of the following detailed
description and accompanying drawings with three sheets according to the present
invention.
Another object of the present invention is to prepare a slag fluidizer composition.
Still other object of the present invention is to provide the slag fluidizer composition
which comprises SiO2, A12O3, CaO, Fe2O3, MgO, TiO2, Na2O and LOI in particular
ratio.
Another object of the present invention is to provide the method which has a plurality
of advantages of reasonable simple process, safe and reliable operation, no secondary
pollution, low cost.
Another object of the present invention is to provide the advantages of the slag fluidizer
composition which improve slag raking efficiency and reduce metal loss and reduce
temperature drop in hot metal bath while addition.
Another object of the present invention is the process for removal of slag by using slag
fluidizer composition which is simple and the effect is excellent.
Another object of the present invention is to avoid fumes generation during process and
low cost operation.
Another object of the present invention is that to describe the process for removal of
slag by using slag fluidizer composition which comprises of-
a) Tapping of hot metal from torpedo to transfer ladle;
b) Partial slag off (if required );
c) Complete injection of desulphurizing compound in hot metal during ladle
treatment
d) Formation of Slag
e) Slag fluidizer compound is added on the top of slag;
f) Removal of slag done through slag raking
Other objects of the present invention, together with means and methods for attaining
the various objects, will become apparent from the following description and the
accompanying drawings of preferred embodiments.
Novelty of this instant invention lies on the slag fluidizer composition. The invention
itself, additional objects and advantages thereof, will best be understood from the
following description of certain specific embodiments, when read in connection with
the accompanying drawings, in which:

After external desulphurization of hot metal, it is essential that slag generated during
this process is removed to much possible extent. Removal of slag is an important
process as it contains high percentage of sulphur that can lead to sulphur reversal during
further processing of metal. The process of removal of slag is done through raking from
top of ladle and if not done properly can lead to considerable iron loss during skimming
operation and extra skimming time associated with highrate of temperature drop.
In the slag removal process the slag fluidizer has been used wherein SiO2 is 35- 45%,
A12O3 is 45- 55 %, CaO is 8-10%, Fe2O3 is 3-5%, MgO isl.5 -2%, Ti02 is 0.5-0.7%,
Na2O is 0.03-0.05% and LOI is less than 3%. All the above ingredients are less than
1mm in size. The compound is in the form of powder, packed in air tight sealed bags.

ability process.
Basic reaction principle:
CaO+SiO2 → CaSiO3 (1)
CaSiO3 + SiO2 + Al2O3 → CaAl2Si2O8 (Calcium alumino silicate) (2)
The desulphurisation of hot metal with high sulphur is done in ladle through injection of
desulphurizing compounds. After completion of injection, slag is formed at the top of
the bath. To remove the slag through raking this compound is added on the top of the
slag through a chute. The amount of compound added depends on the quantity and
quality of slag formed which is designed experimentally. The material spreads on the
slag as it comes in contact with metal surface and helps in thinning of slag. Finally slag
skimmed is out through raking process.
The slag fluidizer of the present invention is tested and result is given below-
Figure 2 shows the trend of temperature drop of new compound vs existing soda ash
being used as slag fluidizer. It is evident that the temperature drop is less in case of new
compound when the addition of compound is kept 0.0055-0.0067% of the total hot
metal weight.

The present invention as described above, it is to be understood that this invention is not
limited to particular materials described, as these may vary as per the person skilled in
the art. It is also to be understood that the terminology used in the description is for the
purpose of describing the particular embodiments only, and is not intended to limit the
scope of the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the
invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to
those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact formulation as
described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted
to, falling within the scope of the invention.
We claim:
1) A Slag fluidizer composition which comprises of SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, Fe2O3, MgO,
TiO2, Na2O and LOI in particular ratio;
2) The Slag fluidizer composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein SiO2 is 35- 45%,
Al2O3 is 45- 55 %, CaO- 8-10%, Fe2O3 is 3-5%, MgO is1.5 -2%, TiO2 is 05-07%,
Na2O is 0.03-0.05% and LOI is less than 3%.
3) The Slag fluidizer composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the above ingredients
are less than 1mm in size.
4) The Slag fluidizer composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the amount of
composition added is 0.0055-0.0067% of the total hot metal weight.
5) The Slag fluidizer composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the addition of
composition generates no fumes.
6) The Slag fluidizer composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein after addition of
compound causes thinning of slag and slag have to be skimmed out through raking
process.
7) The process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer composition which
comprises;
a) Tapping of hot metal from torpedo to transfer ladle;
b) Partial slag off (if required);
c) Complete injection of desulphurizing compound in hot metal during ladle
treatment
d) Formation of Slag
e) Slag fluidizer compound is added on the top of slag;
f) Removal of slag done through slag raking
8) The process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer composition as claimed in
claim 7 wherein the composition is added into the metal bath reacts with the calcium
silicates of slag and form calcium alumino silicate which fluidizes slag and
facilitates the slag rackability.
9) The process for removal of slag by using slag fluidizer composition as claimed in
claim 7 wherein process is simple, safe and reliable operation, no secondary
pollution and low cost.
10) The Slag fluidizer composition in which substantially as hereinbefore described
with particular reference with accompanying drawings.
