[0027] The present disclosure relates to the field of a console assembly for a vehicle. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a console assembly arranged in between front seats of the vehicle having a front side utility and a rear side utility arranged opposite to each other.
[0028] In an embodiment, referring to FIGs. 1 and 2A-2D, a console assembly (1000) for a vehicle is shown. The console assembly (1000) includes a housing (10) that is adapted to be movable between a non-collapsed position (16) and a collapsed position (14) is disclosed. The collapsible housing (10) is rotatably mounted on a carrier part (20) and arranged in between the front seats (5,6) of the vehicle. The housing (10) may include a storage space (10-3) for storing article(s) therein.
[0029] In an embodiment, the housing (10) includes a first utility (10-1) and a second utility (10-2) that are arranged opposite to each other on the front side and the rear side, respectively, of the housing (10) as shown in FIG. 2A, wherein the housing (10) remains in the non-collapsed position (16). The first utility (10-1) and/or the second utility (10-2) are further movable toward each other to a collapsed position (14) of the housing (10), to move the housing to the collapsed position (14) as shown in FIG. 2B. Further, in the collapsed position (14) of the housing (10), the housing (10) is rotatable with respect to the carrier part (20) such that the first utility (10-1) moves to the rear side and the second utility (10-2) moves to the front side of the housing as shown in FIG. 2C. More specifically, the housing (10) is rotatable substantially to 180 degrees, as illustrated in FIGs. 2A-2D. Furthermore, the rotated first utility (10-1) may be moved toward the rear side (where the second utility was in FIG. 2A) and the rotated second utility (10-2) may be moved toward the front side (where the first utility was in FIG. 2A) of the housing (10), such that the first utility (10-1) and the second utility (10-2) moves away from each other as shown in FIG. 2D to again move the housing (10) in the non-collapsed position (16), but with the position of the first utility (10-1) and the second utility (10-2) reversed. Thus, the console assembly (1000) provides utilities (10-1, 102-2) that are adjustable in different positions so that the usability of the utilities is flexible and can be adjusted according to the need of the passengers.
[0030] In an embodiment, the housing (10) includes the storage space (10-3) in between the first utility (10-1) and the second utility (10-2), wherein the side walls of the housing (10) are collapsible enabling to vary the volume of the storage space (10-3). More particularly in an embodiment (referring to the encircle view in the FIGs. 2B to 2D), a portion (X) of the side walls has a cavity (X’) wherein the remaining other portion (Y) of the side walls is movable into the cavity (X’) to move the housing (10) in between the collapsed position (14) and non-collapsed position (16), thereby allowing the movement/transformation of the housing (10) between the collapsed position (14) and the non-collapsed position (16).
[0031] In an embodiment, the storage space (10-3) has a top open to store articles therein. Further, the console assembly (1000) includes a movable lid (15) arranged to close/open the top open storage space (10-3) of the housing (10) as shown in FIGs. 3A-3B, and FIGs. 4A-4B. [0032] In an embodiment, the first utility (10-1) and second utility (10-2) are a cup-holding unit and battery charging unit or trash bin or a wireless charging or a USB port. However, other utilities may also be implemented in the present invention without any limitation, and all such embodiments are well within the scope of the invention. For instance, in other embodiments, the first utility (10-1) and the second utility (10-2) can be selected from any or a combination of a cup-holding unit, a battery charging unit, a trash bin, a wireless charging, and a USB port.
[0033] In an embodiment, in the collapsed position (14), the housing (10) moves/transforms substantially into a square-shaped structure and in a non-collapsed position (16), the housing moves/transforms substantially into a rectangular-shape structure as shown in FIG. 2A, 3A-3B and/or 4A-4B.
[0034] In an embodiment, the carrier part (20) is a central panel (as shown in FIG. 1) arranged on a floor of the vehicle and in between the front seats (5,6). In another embodiment, the carrier part (20) is a portion of the floor (not shown) of the vehicle in between the front seats (5,6).
[0035] In an embodiment, the housing (10) is rotatable in the collapsed position (14) in between the front seats (5,6) about a pivot axis (1) arranged in/on the carrier part (20) or the housing (10), wherein the pivot axis (1) is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the housing (10) and/or the carrier part (20).
[0036] In an implementation (referring to FIG. 2A to 2D), in the original position/condition (or non-collapsed position) of the console assembly (1000), the first utility (10-1) on the front side is reliably usable by the front seat passenger(s) and the second utility (10-1) on the rear side is reliably usable by the rear seat passenger(s) as shown in FIG. 2A. In case, when the front passenger like to use the second utility (10-2) and/or the rear passenger likes to use the first utility (10-1) reliably, the first utility (10-1) and/or the second utility (10-2) may be moved towards each other in the collapsed position (14) of the housing (10) as shown in FIG. 2B to correspondingly move the housing in the collapsed position. Then, the collapsed housing (10) may be rotated about the pivot axis (1) substantially to 180 degrees or such that the first utility (10-1) (which was initially on the front side in FIG. 2A) moves to the rear side and the second utility (10-2) (which was initially on the rear side in FIG. 2A) moves to the front side as shown in FIG. 2C. Then finally, the rotated first utility (10-1) and/or the second utility (10-2) may be moved away from each other in the non-collapsed position (16) of the housing (10) as shown in FIG. 2D, but with the position of the first utility (10-1) and the second utility (10-2) reversed. Thus, the present invention provides a simple, efficient, and easy-to-use console assembly (1000) that provides utilities that are adjustable in different positions so that the usability of the utilities is flexible and can be adjusted according to the need of the passengers.
