Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a control rod 14 positioned within the housing 12. The control rod 14 is adapted to reciprocate within the housing 12. An end of the control disc 16 is 10 secured to an end of the control rod 14 such that an outer circumference of the end of the control disc 16 is flush against an outer circumference of the end of the control rod 14. The control disc 16 is adapted to translate the control rod 14 by a user defined displacement. A control screw 18 is secured to the control disc 16, the control disc 16 adapted to be rotated by a user defined rotation to facilitate translating the control disc 15 16 by the user defined displacement, thereby facilitating limiting the maximum travel displacement of the control rod 14.
Claims:1. A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
10 a housing (12);
a control rod (14) positioned within said housing (12), said control rod (14)
adapted to reciprocate within said housing (12) to facilitate varying a quantity
of pressurized fuel delivered by said high pressure fuel pump (10);
characterized in that
15 a control disc (16), an end of said control disc (16) secured to an end of said
control rod (14) such that an outer circumference of the end of said control disc
(16) is flush against an outer circumference of the end of said control rod (14),
said control disc (16) adapted to translate said control rod (14) by a user defined
displacement to facilitate limiting a maximum travel displacement of said
20 control rod (14) during a starting condition of said high pressure fuel pump
(10).
2. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1, further
comprising a control disc (16) secured by said control screw (18), said control
25 disc (16) adapted to be rotated by a user defined rotation to facilitate translating
said control disc (16) by the user defined displacement, thereby facilitating
limiting the maximum travel displacement of said control rod (14) during the
starting condition of said high pressure fuel pump (10).
3. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2, further
comprising a control rod cap (20) positioned proximate to said control screw
(18), said control screw (18) adapted to abut against said control rod cap (20)
at its maximum travel displacement position, thereby limiting 5 the maximum
travel displacement by which said control rod (14) can be translated during the
starting condition of said high pressure fuel pump (10).
4.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2, wherein said
10 control disc (16) is adapted to be rotated to a user defined angle of rotation the
rotation of said control disc (16) to the user defined angle of rotation facilitates
translating said control disc (16) by the user defined displacement to facilitate
limiting the maximum travel displacement of said control rod (14) during the
starting condition of said high pressure fuel pump (10).
5. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 4, wherein said
control disc (16) is adapted to be rotated by a discrete number of angles
between 0 degrees and 360 degrees to facilitate advancing said control disc
(16) by finite discrete displacements to facilitate limiting the maximum travel
20 displacement of said control rod (14) during the starting condition of said high
pressure fuel pump (10). , Description:A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises
a housing 12, and a control rod 14 positioned within the housing 12. The control rod
14 is adapted to reciprocate within the housing 12. An end of the control disc 16 is
10 secured to an end of the control rod 14 such that an outer circumference of the end of
the control disc 16 is flush against an outer circumference of the end of the control rod
14. The control disc 16 is adapted to translate the control rod 14 by a user defined
displacement. A control screw 18 is secured to the control disc 16, the control disc 16
adapted to be rotated by a user defined rotation to facilitate translating the control disc
15 16 by the user defined displacement, thereby facilitating limiting the maximum travel
displacement of the control rod 14.
