A Control Rod Linking Mechanism For A High Pressure Fuel Pump

Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a control rod 14 positioned within the housing 12, the control rod 14 adapted to reciprocate within the housing 12 to facilitate varying a quantity of pressurized fuel delivered by the high pressure fuel pump 10. A cross shaped portion 16 is secured to the control rod 14 that is positioned within the housing 12 via a fastening mechanism 25, the cross shaped portion 16 secured to an accelerator pedal 18 via a linkage mechanism 20, wherein a displacement of the accelerator pedal 18 causes a displacement of the linkage mechanism 20, thereby displacing the cross shaped portion 16 that is secured to the control rod 14.

Specification

Claims:1.A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
a housing (12);
a control rod (14) positioned within said housing (12), said control rod (14) adapted to reciprocate within said housing (12) to facilitate varying a quantity of pressurized fuel delivered by said high pressure fuel pump (10); characterized in that
a cross shaped portion (16) secured to said control rod (14) that is positioned within said housing (12) via a fastening mechanism (25), said cross shaped portion (16) secured to an accelerator pedal (18) via a linkage mechanism (20), wherein a displacement of the accelerator pedal (18) causes a displacement of the linkage mechanism (20), thereby displacing the cross shaped portion (16) that is secured to said control rod (14).
2.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 wherein a displacement of said cross shaped portion (16) that is secured to said control rod (14) causes a proportional displacement of said control rod (14), thereby controlling a quantity of pressurized fuel that is delivered from said high pressure fuel pump (10) to a fuel injector.
3.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 wherein an end of said control rod (14) terminates in a hole shaped portion (22), and wherein said cross shaped portion (16) comprises a hook shaped portion (24) that is secured thereto such that the hook shaped portion (24) of said cross shaped portion (16) is inserted within the hole shaped portion (22) of said control rod (14) to facilitate fastening the cross shaped portion (16) to said control rod (14). , Description:A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. A cross shaped portion 16 is secured to the control rod 14 that is positioned within the housing 12 via a fastening mechanism 25, the cross shaped portion 16 secured to an accelerator pedal 18 via a linkage mechanism 20, wherein a displacement of the accelerator pedal 18 causes a displacement of the linkage mechanism 20, thereby displacing the cross shaped portion 16 that is secured to the control rod 14.
