A Control Rod Locking Mechanism For A High Pressure Fuel Pump

Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a control rod 14 positioned within the housing 12. The control rod 14 is adapted to reciprocate within the housing 12 to facilitate varying a quantity of pressurized fuel delivered by the high pressure fuel pump 10. A bore 16 is defined within the housing 12, the bore 16 in flow communication with the control rod 14. An indentation 18 is defined on an outer circumference of the control rod 14, and wherein a pointed pin 20 is inserted through the bore 16 that is defined within the housing 12 such that an end of the pointed pin 20 is positioned against the indentation 18 that is defined on the outer circumference of the control rod 14 to facilitate preventing the control rod 14 from translating within the housing 12.

Specification

Claims:1.A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
a housing (12);
a control rod (14) positioned within said housing (12), said control rod (14) adapted to reciprocate within said housing (12) to facilitate varying a quantity of pressurized fuel delivered by said high pressure fuel pump (10); characterized in that
a bore (16) defined within said housing (12), the bore (16) in flow communication with said control rod (14); and
an indentation (18) defined on an outer circumference of said control rod (14), and wherein a pointed pin (20) is inserted through the bore (16) that is defined within said housing (12) such that an end of said pointed pin (20) is positioned against the indentation (18) that is defined on the outer circumference of said control rod (14) to facilitate preventing said control rod (14) from translating within said housing (12) of said high pressure fuel pump (10).
2.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 further comprising a locknut (22) inserted within an outer circumference of said pointed pin (20), said locknut (22) adapted to be rotated until said locknut (22) is positioned against said housing (12) to facilitate securing said pointed pin (20) against the indentation (18) that is defined on the outer circumference of said control rod (14).
3.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2 further comprising a washer (24) positioned between said locknut (22) and said housing (12), said washer (24) adapted to seal said locknut (22) against said housing (12) when said locknut (22) is tightened against said housing (12) to facilitate sealing the bore (16) that is defined within said housing (12).
4.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2 wherein the bore (16) that is defined within said housing (12) comprises a plurality of internal screw threads that mesh with a plurality of external screw threads that are defined on an outer circumference of the pointed pin (20) to facilitate securing said pointed pin (20) against the indentation (18) that is defined on the outer circumference of said control rod (14).
, Description:A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described.
