A deep water lowering apparatus 10 that utilizes dual davit structures 12 mounted on a barge 3. Each davit structure 12 has a pulling wire rope line 19 spooled on a storage winch 14. Each pulling line 19 is reeved onto a traction winch 16 and through upper and lower sheaves 38, 40 on the davit structure 12 Corresponding ends of each pulling line 19 are connected together on an equalizer beam 28 An adaptor box 24 is suspended from a spreader bar 22 provided with a dog leg center portion 50 for effecting the load transfer from the crane 1. The lowering tool 26 that supports the load is directly received in the adaptor box 24 and transfers the load to the lowering apparatus 10 without the need for rigging work.
