, Description:FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to the field of deburring of drilled holes. The present invention in particular relates to a device and method.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[002] A burr is a raised edge or small piece of material remaining attached to a workpiece after a modification process.

[003] It is usually an unwanted piece of material and is removed with a deburring tool in a process called 'deburring'. Burrs are most commonly created by machining operations, such as grinding, drilling, milling, engraving or turning. It may be present in the form of a fine wire on the edge of a freshly sharpened tool or as a raised portion of a surface; this type of burr is commonly formed when a hammer strikes a surface. Deburring accounts for a significant portion of manufacturing costs. In general drilling of holes on any product such as pipe and flat plates leave burrs on the entry and exit of drilled parts. For removing these burrs, we have to chamfer at the entry with higher size drill and the exit of the drilled parts will have to be inverted and chamfered with higher size drill. Or deburring at the bottom should be done by carbide burrs or grinding wheels with portable hand grinding machines. In particular deburring exit of drilled parts in pipes is very difficult as the accessibility is limited. Presently the focus is on reducing burr formation through optimization of process control parameters and drill geometry. But we know that it is possible to reduce the size of the burr, it is not possible to eliminate it entirely. Also, the methods deployed for removing drilling burrs, involve invariably extra process steps and increase cycle times and costs. A combined drilling and deburring tool would provide the optimal solution, removing the burr while not significantly increasing drilling time.
[004] There are many deburring processes, but the most common are mass-finishing, spindle finishing, media blasting, sanding, grinding, wire brushing, abrasive flow machining, electrochemical deburring, electro polishing, thermal energy method, machining, and manual deburring.
[005] Mass finishing is a process in which all the parts to be deburred are put in a hopper and are passed through a mixture of compound abrasives in a down slope of a machine that revolves particularly to make abrasive action.
[006] Spindle finishing is a deburring technique in which work piece mounted on the spindle is deburred by immersing it into a rapidly moving abrasive slurry.
[007] Media blasting, sanding are techniques where small iron balls are directed in a high speed stream on to the work piece to be deburred.
[008] Grinding, Abrasive flow machining are costly processes.
[009] Mass finishing, spindle finishing, media blasting, sanding cannot remove burrs clearly as the area of action for abrasives cannot be defined on a work piece.
[0010] Wire brushing, manual deburring, electro polishing consumes a lot of time. Also pipes and flat plates cannot be mass finished as their size is higher and cannot be clubbed for mass finishing.
[0011] These drawbacks necessitate the requirement to find a suitable process or technique to deburr drilled holes in a pipe or a plate.
[0012] Patent Application number US009889534B2 invention relates to an improved on-line deburring device of a wheel valve hole, having a frame, electric cylinders, an air cylinder, grinding heads, a motor, guide rails and a transmission shaft. In use, the present invention can meet the requirements for deburring the wheel valve hole; meanwhile, the device has the characteristics of high production efficiency, advanced technique, high automation degree, stable performance, etc.

[0013] Patent Application number US005897273A relates to. This invention relates to a deburring tool and process; whose main aim is to remove the burrs from the edge of a hole situated on the face opposite the tool in a drilled part.

[0014] Patent US009889534B2 is much complex with air cylinders, grinding head and motors and can be applied to wheel valve holes only.

[0015] Patent US005897273A specifies about the burrs on the opposite side of the tool only.

[0016] This necessitates the development of current invention to deburr holes both at entry and exit or start and end of a hole especially in a pipe or a plate.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0017] It is an object of the present invention is to propose a device and method for deburring of drilled holes at the entry and exit of drilled holes on uneven surfaces.

[0018] Other object of the present invention is to propose a device and method for deburring of drilled holes at the entry and exit of drilled holes on uneven surfaces of drilled holes on plates and pipes.

[0019] Yet another objective of the invention is to propose a device with spring tensioning mechanism that will automatically makes the tool come out of the holder and deburr the entry and further get into the holder after deburring the entry.

[0020] A still further objective of the invention is to provide the cutting tool which is housed inside the holder than when it is traveling to the bottom for further deburring at exit of the hole as soon as it come out of the hole.

[0021] A yet another objective of the invention is to propose a device for deburring which has sufficient rigidity and stability in carrying out deburring operation.

[0022] A yet another objective of the invention is to reduce the cycle time by eliminating the separate operation of deburring after hole drilling in pipes and plates.

[0023] These and other objects and advantages of the present subject matter will be apparent to a person skilled in the art after consideration of the following detailed description taken into consideration with accompanying drawings in which preferred embodiments of the present subject matter are illustrated.

The present invention will now be described more specifically with reference to the following specification.

[0033] It should be noted that the description and figures merely illustrate the principles of the present subject matter. It should be appreciated by those skilled in the art that conception and specific embodiment disclosed may be readily utilized as a basis for modifying or designing other structures for carrying out the same purposes of the present subject matter. It should also be appreciated by those skilled in the art that by devising various arrangements that, although not explicitly described or shown herein, embody the principles of the present subject matter and are included within its spirit and scope. Furthermore, all examples recited herein are principally intended expressly to be for pedagogical purposes to aid the reader in understanding the principles of the present subject matter and the concepts contributed by the inventor(s) to furthering the art and are to be construed as being without limitation to such specifically recited examples and conditions. The novel features which are believed to be characteristic of the present subject matter, both as to its organization and method of operation, together with further objects and advantages will be better understood from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying figures.
[0034] Fig. 1 shows the Device according to the present invention. The device comprises of tool holder (01), spring tensioner housing (02), spring load adjuster pin (03), tool retainer pin (04), spring (06), deburring tool (05), grub screws for tool retainer (08), grub screw for spring tension adjustment (09) and allen screw (07).
[0035] Tool holder (01) is a component that transmits the drive of the machine to the tool and at the same time holds the tool in place for deburring. It is made from any material whose tensile strength is above 540Mpa and be can be hardened to 32HRC.
[0036] Deburring tool (05) is made of High speed steel and is hardened to 62 HRC to withstand cutting loads.
[0037] Spring load adjuster pin (03) can be used to increase the spring action on the tool.
[0038] Helical spring that suits the inside diameter of spring tensioner housing (02) is to be used. Pitch and diameter of the spring can be chosen based on the cutting load that will act on the tool.
[0039] Allen screw (07) is used to avoid projection of screw head outside the tool holder.
[0040] Spring tensioner housing of the device which retains the spring is mounted inside the tool holder.

[0041] The spring tension is adjusted based on the material of plate or pipe on which hole is to be drilled. For high strength materials, the spring tension is increased by screwing in the spring load adjuster pin with grub screw.

[0042] Tool retainer pin of the device is used to prevent the pin from protruding outside during drilling operation and damaging the inside surface of the hole. It is also used to change the spring as and when required.

[0043] Due to tension in the spring, it exerts pressure on the deburring tool and deburring takes place at entry and exit of hole simultaneously with drilling operation. Spring tension is adjusted based on amount of burr generated during drilling operation and hardness of the material of plate or pipe on which drilling is done.

[0044] Deburring tool has to be fixed in the turret chuck. After completion of drilling, turret rotates and deburring tool comes in contact with the work piece. A complete pass through the hole and retrieval to original position completes deburring of the drilled hole. This process can be automatic as program can be fed in a CNC machine to choose particular tool from the turret.

[0045] Although embodiments for the present subject matter have been described in language specific to package features, it is to be understood that the present subject matter is not necessarily limited to the specific features described. In addition, even if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is explicitly recited, those skilled in the art will recognize that such recitation should typically be interpreted to mean at least the recited number (e.g., the bare recitation of “two recitations,” without other modifiers, typically means at least two recitations, or two or more recitations). Furthermore, in those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, and C, etc.” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention (e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, and C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.). In those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, or C, etc.” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention (e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, or C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.). It will be further understood by those within the art that virtually any disjunctive word and/or phrase presenting two or more alternative terms, whether in the description, claims, or drawings, should be understood to contemplate the possibilities of including one of the terms, either of the terms, or both terms. For example, the phrase “A or B” will be understood to include the possibilities of “A” or “B” or “A and B.”

[0047] It will be further appreciated that functions or structures of a plurality of components or steps may be combined into a single component or step, or the functions or structures of one-step or component may be split among plural steps or components. The present invention contemplates all of these combinations. Unless stated otherwise, dimensions and geometries of the various structures depicted herein are not intended to be restrictive of the invention, and other dimensions or geometries are possible. In addition, while a feature of the present invention may have been described in the context of only one of the illustrated embodiments, such feature may be combined with one or more other features of other embodiments, for any given application. It will also be appreciated from the above that the fabrication of the unique structures herein and the operation thereof also constitute methods in accordance with the present invention. The present invention also encompasses intermediate and end products resulting from the practice of the methods herein. The use of “comprising” or “including” also contemplates embodiments that “consist essentially of” or “consist of” the recited feature.

[0048] Although embodiments for the present subject matter have been described in language specific to structural features, it is to be understood that the present subject matter is not necessarily limited to the specific features described.
