Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to uniform)flow distribution to
Boiler tubes from headers. More particularly, the invention relates to
a device to achieve uniform flow distribution from headers to boiler
tubes in a boiler system.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Boiler headers are widely used and constitute pne of the major
components in Boilers. It is used for flow distribution to tubes and
acts as a reservoir in the boiler. The headers serve the purpose of
water/steam drums. The terminology header is commonly used in
engineering to describe any tube, chamber, drum, or similar piece to
which tubes or pipes are connected in such a way as to permit the
flow from one tube (or group of tubes) to another. Essentially, a
header is a type of manifold or collection point. Presently, the flow
distribution is controlled by an orifice device.
Generally, The outlet of the headers tubes doesn't have uniform
flow. In order to increase the efficiency of heat pickup, it is necessary
to more effectively distribute the flow uniformly.

US Patent US 5789324 discloses a method for uniform gas flow at
surface of a planar device or wafer in a processing system having a
substantial cylindrical chamber through which processing gases flow
toward an asymmetrically located outlet port by using an
appropriately disposed collar or baffle along the gas stream in the
chamber in a plane of the surface of the planar device or wafer.
US Patent US 4553925 discloses a dual flow distribution header
system in which the flow is divided into two paths before the
distribution header but after a metering device. The flow is controlled
by separate butterfly valves in each path, whereby the control
function is magnified and becomes more precise in each path. The
invention is particularly adapted for use with industrial heating
furnaces employing dual burner systems.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the invention to propose a device for
uniform flow distribution from the header to boiler tubes in a boiler
system, which eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.

Another object of the invention is to propose a device for uniform
flow distribution from the header to boiler tubes in a boiler system,
which is enabled to adapt a circular baffle plate for water and steam
headers of the boilers.
A still another object of the invention is to prppose a device for
uniform flow distribution from the header to boiler tubes in a boiler
system, in which a plurality of holes configured in the circular baffle
plate in radial direction stimulate the uniform flow distribution.
SUMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provided a device for generating an uniform flow
distribution from the boiler header to each boiler tubes including the
tubes located in the dead-flow zone in a boiler system, the device
comprising a baffle plate disposed at a center of the boiler header
and perpendicular to inlet flow direction, the baffle plate being
supported by the top section of the boiler header; wherein the baffle
plate is configured with a plurality of holes arranged in radial
direction, and wherein the dimension, direction and number of said
plurality of holes are selected based on a simulation of the flow
distribution to boiler tubes including generating a 3D geometrical
model.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Figure 1 - Shows a non uniform flow distribution device according to
prior art operating at high mass flow rate.
Figure 2 - Shows an embodiment of a Boiler header with a device
according to the invention.
Figure 3 - Shows an alternative embodiment of the device with a
plurality of holes configured at different radial direction
according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention, a simulation of the flow distribution to
Boiler tubes is implemented by adapting a CFD code. A geometry 3D
model is first generated for an uniform flow distribution. Thereafter,
the mesh of the Boiler header with holes in radial direction is
correspondingly built on a circular baffle plate. Then, the Boiler
header with circular baffle plate having different radial holes is
simulated at different flow conditions. The result of flow distribution

of the Boiler header with circular baffle plates having differently
configured radial holes is compared with that of a typical plain Boiler
header, and the best value is selected.
Figure 1 shows a fluid flow stream line (1), and a dead flow region
(2). It can be seen that a maximum fluid is flowing through the boiler
tubes located at center of the tubes (3) and there is no fluid flow (4)
in the dead flow region (2). Figure 2 shows an embodiment of the
inventive device. The device essentially consists of a circular baffle
plate (6) with different holes in radial direction. The uniform flow is
controlled by the circular baffle plate (6) and it is disposed at the
centre of the boiler header (5) and perpendicular to the inlet flow
direction and this plate is supported by the header top.
The circular baffle plate (6) of the Boiler header (5) is configured
with different holes (7) in radial direction of the circular baffle plate
(6) as shown in Figure 3. These different holes (7) control the fluid
flow (4) in the centre of the Boiler header's qutlet tubes (8) and
develop the fluid flow (4) in the consecutive tubes (3) from the
centre of the Boiler header (5) (or opposite tube from the fluid flow
direction).
