Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to mounting means for mounting and dismounting cutter arborassembly on 3-Axis milling machines adapted for machining of various types of turbine blades. More particularly, the invention relates to a device for mounting and dismounting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machine. The invention further relates to a method for mounting and dismounting a cutter arbor assembly on a 3-Axis milling machine.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Steam turbine blades are manufactured through milling in various stages. Out of these multiple stages, the profile and fillet parts of the blades are manufactured on 3-Axis HMC machines. These machines basically perform copy milling operation through a template provided. The milling cutters are mounted on a horizontal arbor which in turn is mounted on the machine and locked through a steady.
Now, this whole assembly is quite heavy and its mounting and dismounting is a very tedious job. It not only time consuming and causes operator fatigue, but also poses a threat to safety of the operator as the mounted cutters have sharp edges and handling them manually may lead to injury of the operator.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose a device for mounting and dismounting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machine.
Another object of this invention is to propose a device for mounting and dismounting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machinewhich reduces the machine down time by reducing mounting and dismounting time.
Another object of this invention is to propose a device for mounting and dismounting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machinewhich improves cycle-time of the profile/ fillet milling operation of the blades.
Yet another object of this invention is to proposea device for mounting and dismounting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machine which enhances quality of steam turbine blades by eliminating rework and rejection on account of frequent mounting and dismounting of cutters and arbors on the machine.
A further object of the invention is to propose a method for mounting and dismounting a cutter arbor assembly on a 4_Axis milling machine.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which :
Figure 1 shows the top, bottom and side view of the ‘base plate’ of invented device.
Figure 2 shows the top, bottom and side view of the ‘support columns’ of the invented device.
Figure 3 shows the top, bottom and side view of the ‘locking arm’ of the invented device.
Figure 4 shows 3D model of M8 screws used in the invented device.
Figure 5 shows the top, bottom and side view of the assembly of all these parts to complete the invented device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provideda device for mounting and dismount ting of cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-Axis HMC machine. The device comprising :
- a base plate (1);
- two support columns (2);
- two locking arms (3);
- a plurality of M8 Screws (4).
The base plate (1) is used to mount the device on the machine with the help of a first plurality of screws (4). The support columns (2) are then mounted on this base plate (1).
The support columns (2) are used for placement of a plurality of steady in required orientations. This is mounted on the base plate (1) with the help of a second plurality of screws (4).

The locking arm (3) is used for locking the movement of the plurality of steady in forward or reverse direction. Any movement of the machine head now results in sliding of the steady through the arbor and ultimately dismounting from the machine.
M8 screws are used for holding above-mentioned different parts together.
As shown in the figures, the device comprises mainly three parts. A base plate (1) that shall remain in contact with the machine bed. Support columns(2) are mounted on this base plate with the help of screws (4). Locking arm (3) is in turn mounted on the support column.
To remove the cutter, a plurality of steady are required to be removed.
The machine head is moved so that first steady is rested on the support columns and then it is locked with the locking arms (3). Now, the machine head is moved backwards. But as the first steady has been fixed, the arbor slides off from inside the steady and the steady is thereby removed. Same process is adopted for the remaining steadies in the machine. In order to remove the arbor, all three steadies are removed in the same manner.
It is further important to note that in addition to eliminate the down time of the machine incurred on account of time taken in manual removal of the steadies, the device further improves the safety aspect of the entire process, providing a versatile scope of use.

With assembly of the device and its adaptation in mounting and dismounting of the cutter arbor assembly on 3-Axis HMC machine used for machining of various types of turbine blades, it is apparent that the embodiment of the invention, as described hereinabove makes the mounting/dismounting operations of the cutter arbor assembly.
The proposed device results in reduction of machine down time through standardization of the process of mounting and dismounting of the steady. The invention increases productivity of the profile and fillet milling operation on horizontal machining centers along with reduction in the fatigue of the operator.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur by those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

WE CLAIM :
1. A device for mounting and dismounting cutter-arbor assembly on and from 3-
Axis HMC machine, comprising :
- a base plate (1) to mount the assembly on the machine with the help of a first plurality of screws (4);
- at least two support column (2) mounted on the base plate (1), the support columns (2) used for placement of a plurality of steady in required orientations and mounted on the base plate (1) with the help of a second plurality screws (4);
- a locking arm (3)used for locking the movement of the plurality of steady in forward or reverse direction allowing sliding of the plurality of steady through the arbor in correspondence with the movement of machine head and ultimately dismounting the steadies from the machine.
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein all the components of the device are
hardened.

3. A method for mounting and dismounting of cutter arbor assembly on 3-axis milling machine in a device as claimed in claim 1, the method comprising:
i) removing the plurality of steady from the machine to dismount the
assembly;
ii) moving the machine head so that a first steady is rested on the
support columns (2) and locking the steady with the locking arms (3);
iii) sliding the machine head backwards to allow the arbor box to slide off
from inside the steady and thereby removing the steady;
iv) repeating the step (iii) for the remaining steadies in the machine to
dismount the arbor.
