TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to an oiling device and a method for oiling sheets, plates or the like. More particularly, the invention relates to device and method for oiling plates in the manufacture of circuit breaker.
BACKGROUND ART
Generally, at the manufacturing of circuit breakers, the side plates of the circuit breakers are oiled to avoid rusting of the side plates. Usually, such oiling of the plates is done manually by applying oil using a cotton ball. However, this practice is time consuming and low productive. Further, there is wastage of oil and application of oil may not be uniform all over the plate and on both the sides.
US Patent 3805738 discloses an Oiling Device For Metal Sheet, which comprises a pair of oiling rollers covered with elastic porous pads. The metal sheet passes through the gap between the rollers so that it can be oiled on both sides. Guide means are provided for moving the rollers towards or away from each other. The guide means are comprised of air cylinders for causing at least one of the rollers to move towards the other and spring means to cause the rollers to separate from each other. However, the device includes many device elements and requires frequent maintenance. Moreover, the device requires additional arrangement for passing and holding the plate at the other end.
An European Patent No. EP0657227B1 entitled Device for greasing strip or plate-like work pieces discloses an apparatus for greasing strip- or board-shaped workpieces, having a plurality of hollow greasing rollers provided with grease-permeable material, aligned parallel to one another
2
and rotatably mounted in each case on a hollow axle which is disposed in a frame and through which the greasing agent may be supplied to the interior of the greasing rollers via a plurality of closable, radial grease outlet openings disposed in the longitudinal direction of said greasing rollers, each hollow axle being provided at either end with a shaped piece which is insertable positively into a correspondingly configured recess in the frame and is held releasably therein by means of a locking device characterized in that the hollow axle is insertable in feed direction or counter to feed direction in a plane extending parallel to the plane of passage of the workpiece or in a plane extending obliquely relative to the plane of passage of the workpieces into the recesses in the frame the hollow axle with its shaped pieces being exchangeable in the manner of a drawer for another hollow axle. This system is cumbersome and not suitable for oiling the plates of a circuit breaker.
Japanese patent application number JP 01040913 describes the method of oiling plate with the purpose to prevent an unoiled part from rusting by passing about one reel of plate, through a coating apparatus part without oil from the front end of the plate, then starting oiling of only the surface of the plate which forms the inside of a coil. In this method immediately before the plate is taken up round a take up reel, the surface of the plate is oiled by the coating apparatus, In that case a part of the surface equivalent to the circumference of one reel of the plate passes through the part of the coating apparatus without oil form the front end of the plate, only the surface of the plate forming the inside of the coil begins oiled. This method of oiling plate is quite cumbersome and is not suitable for oiling the plates of the circuit breakers.
3
Therefore, there is a need of a method and a device for evenly oiling plates or sheets.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Figure 1 shows the device for oiling according to an embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device and method of oiling plate or sheet, particularly suitable for use in oiling side plates of a circuit breaker during manufacture.
According to an embodiment of the present invention as shown in figure 1 the device for oiling plate or sheet such as for example a side plate used in circuit breaker includes a cylinder (10) having a piston (12); a first pad (14) attached to free end (16) of the piston (12) ; a second pad (18) placed parallel to the first pad (14) ; and an actuating means (20) for actuating the piston (12).
The cylinder (10) according to the present invention is a pneumatic cylinder. Alternatively, a hydraulic cylinder or manually operated cylinder may be used. The cylinder (10) is mounted in a frame (22); preferably in the center of the frame (22).
The frame (22) is preferably a C-shaped, particularly inverted C-shaped. The cylinder (10) is mounted on the flat surface (24) of the C-shape of the frame as shown in figure. The legs (26) of C-shaped frame are mounted on a surface on which the frame (22) needs to be fixed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the frame (22) is mounted on a table
5
(28). However, the frame (22) may be mounted on any suitable surface according to the requirement of the user.
The piston (12) is adapted to the cylinder (10) in such a manner that the piston (12) reciprocates inside the cylinder (10) when actuated. One end of the piston is attached to the cylinder (not shown in figure) and the free end (16) of the piston moves up and down on actuation. The free end (16) of the piston (12) is provided with a first pad (14) so that pad (14) moves along with the piston (12) when the piston (12) reciprocates. A second pad (18) is positioned parallel to the first pad (16) on the surface where the frame (22) is mounted. According to the present invention, the second pad (18) is placed on the table (28). Therefore, when the piston (12) moves down, the first pad (16) pat or touch the second pad (18) and when the piston (12) moves up, the pad (16) moves away from the pad (18).
The actuating means (20) actuates the piston (12) to reciprocate in the cylinder (10). The actuating means (20) according to the present invention is a two hand push button that operates the piston in the pneumatic cylinder by electrical signal. The two hand pushbuttons (20) are electrically operated by a method known to a person skilled in the art.
The actuating means (20) is placed conveniently to operate the device. According to an embodiment, the actuation means (20) is placed under the table (28). However, positioning of the actuating means (20) may be decided according to the convenience of the user.
The pad (16 & 18) according to an embodiment of the present invention are absorbing cushion. However, the pads (16 and 18) may be selected from various oil absorbing material. However, care should be taken to choose the pad such that the pads withstand stress caused due to the
6
pressure applied by the piston (12) and patting the surface of the sheet to be oiled and are capable of holding oil.
Thus the device according to the present invention oils the plate evenly at a time reducing the labour hour and wastage of oil. The device of the present invention improves the house keeping and also increases the efficiency of oiling plates.
The device is simple in construction and requires substantially less maintenance. The device is suitable for oiling plates of circuit breaker
Another aspect of the present invention provides a method of oiling plate or sheet; said method includes the steps: spreading oil on the first and second pad; placing a plate or sheet to be oiled on the second pad; actuating the piston by actuating means. When the piston is actuated, it pushes the first pad against the plate placed on the second pad, oiling both the sides of the plate or sheet.
The spreading of the oil may be done manually or by any known method. Initially, when the process is started sufficient oil is spread on the base absorbable pad wherein the plate is placed, again on the top of the said plate oil is spread so that with initial strokes oil gets absorb in the upper pad, this process is repeated after every 100 plates are oiled i.e. the initial process is repeated.
Actuating the piston is done by pushing the two-hand pushbuttons that will activate the pneumatic cylinder thereby moving the piston up and down in the cylinder. Pneumatic cylinder actuates with signal from two-hand-pushbutton. An electrical circuit is made with timer such that when the two-hand-push-button is pressed signal goes to solenoid valve allowing the
.7
pneumatic cylinder to take forward stroke further there is a adjustable timer in circuit which decides the holding time of the stroke after set time in the timer the stroke returns back
The method is simple, the user has to just place the sheet or plate to be oiled on the second pad and actuate the piston. The device and the method is quite suitable for applying oil to the side plates of the circuit breakers at the manufacturing stage. This device also reduces the wastage of oil and labour time required for oiling. It also improves the housekeeping and there is an overall increase in the efficiency of the oiling process.
