The innovation relates to a device to hold, clamp, rotate & revolve a valve body
continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and horizontal axis. More particularly, the
invention relates to a device to hold, clamp, rotate & revolve a valve body
continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and horizontal axis, during repair welding
of 20” valve body which requires the frequent rotation and revolving of valve body after every weld pass. This device allows to easily handling of the valve body by giving quick rotation and revolution to carry out sequence welding operation to reduce the weld distortion and overall weld cycle time.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The field of invention related to in-house made mechanized fixture for precisely control the rotation and revolving of 20 inch valve body to carry out sequential weld buildup, more particularly the invention related to design and developing of a device for mechanized the rotation of valve body. The invention comprising broadly specific for repair welding or weld build-up on 20” valve body which got over sized to 280 mm to 286 mm against the requirement of 275.08 mm, it will be required the weld build-up of 500x30x6 mm in the inner portion at four different locations. A sequential welding was planned for repair weld build-up
which requires the frequent rotation and revolving of valve body. Initially the rotation and revolving was done by using flow car or crane. In this the job has to be moved out from welding station and transfer to crane area rotation & revolving was done by using overhead crane and then again shifted to welding station. This expended more time almost two to three time then the welding time.
To reduce the overall weld time and eliminate the use of flow car or crane forces to design & develop a unique device capable to serve the desired purpose. This mechanized welding positioner can easily rotate and revolve the body precisely during the welding operation. To fulfill the requirement a novel fixture had been designed and developed to mechanize the rotation and revolving of valve body efficiently.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
• It is therefore an object of the invention to propose a device to hold, clamp,
rotate & revolve a valve body continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and
horizontal axis, which enables repair welding of heavy weight Valve Body that can’t be moved easily by manually.
• Another object of the invention is to propose a device to hold, clamp, rotate
& revolve a valve body continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and
horizontal axis, which assists automation of welding of valve body and reduce the total weld cycle time.
• A further object of the invention is to propose a device to hold, clamp,
rotate & revolve a valve body continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and
horizontal axis holding of valve body precisely to ensure flaw less flowless welding during a shorter cycle time.
• A still another object of the invention is to propose a device to hold, clamp,
rotate & revolve a valve body continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and
horizontal axis, which eliminates the use of flow car or crane for revolving and rotating of valve body during the welding process.
• Yet another object of the invention is to propose a device to hold, clamp,
rotate & revolve a valve body continuously in 360⁰ along the vertical and
horizontal axis, which allows sequential welding of the valve body by frequent rotating of valve body position.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary aspect of the invention involves to provide a device for holding, clamping, rotating and revolving the heavy weight valve body along the horizontal axis as well as vertical axis. The device has simple mechanism of transmitting the thrust bearing rotation to valve body and caster roller support for revolving of the valve body. The device can be used for any size of valve body by modifying the height and width as per valve body. The novelty in the device is that the same device can be used for holding, rotating (along vertical axis) & revolving (along horizontal axis) the valve body to carry out the sequential welding of valve body. The details of one of more embodiments of the invention are set forth in the accompanying drawings and the description below. Other features of the invention will be apparent from the description provided in respect of the drawings.
In the repair welding process, in particular mechanized valve body repair welding, the welding can be carried out in down hand or vertical position, wherein the valve body can be held and clamped for carry out repair weld build up. The valve body can be held and rotated along the horizontal axis as well as along the vertical axis. The process can be used for repair as well as regular welding automation for any heavy size valve body with slight modification in the designed dimensions.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Figure 1 shows the front view of the device of the present invention. The device comprise of three parts, first is lower half or base table contain of thrust bearing slot, pin holes and leveling blocks. Intermediate thrust bearing in between both the half’s is the second part and third is upper half which consist of supporting column, wheel base rotating wheel, support ends, tightening screw and lock pin hole. Figure 2 shows the side view of the device. Both the two half’s shown individually in figure 3 and figure 4. Figure 5 shows the complete isometric view of complete fixture. The complete system was designed and developed indigenously for mechanized movement of valve body.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
This invention eliminates the use of flow car or crane for rotation and revolution of valve body during repair welding. A repair welding of valve body requires the segmental wise step by step weld build-up which desires the frequent movement of valve body along its vertical and horizontal axis. As the weight of valve body is high, it requires the use of flow car or crane for rotating of valve body and this expended more time than repair welding. To attempt the segment welding build¬up and eliminate the use of crane or flow car a novel device was designed and developed for holding, rotating and revolving of valve body in mechanized way.
The complete device consists of three parts. A base support, an intermediate bearing and an upper section. Figures 1 & 2 shows the detailed view of the device including all the sub parts marked separately. Figure 3 shows the line diagram and isometric view of lower half or base table, figure 4 shows the line diagram and isometric view of upper half section and figure 5 shows the isometric view of assembly drawing. Figure 1, shows the Base table (1) which is leveled by using a leveling block with threaded (2) screw at the center of the base table (1) a circular slot is provided (3) for placing of a thrust bearing (5), a pin hole (4) for re-alignment of valve body after each rotation, the upper section (6) of the device is rotated by the thrust bearing (5) placed in between, one end of the thrust bearing (5) welded with lower half’s and one end of the thrust bearing welded with upper half of the bearing a plurality of supporting columns (8) (total 4 number at each corner) to adjust the height as per valve size for easy rotation, at the end of supporting column (8), a wheel base plate (9) is welded, a cylindrical pin (7) is provided for locking and unlocking of the rotation of both the halves, a caster support or wheel support (10) for fixing a rotating wheel an end support (12) for holding and supporting the valve from either sides and which is further tightened by a tightening screw 13. A hole is provided at the center of the upper half as oil inlet for lubrication of the thrust bearing (5).
This device is capable for easy rotating and revolving of the valve body along its axis and reduce the overall weld cycle time.
