Abstract: The present subject matter discloses an automobile (100) with a die-cast wheel (101, 102). The die-cast wheel (101, 102) comprises a rim (2) which is extending circumferentially with respect to a centre axis of an axle insertion portion (20); the rim (2) is connected with plurality of spokes (6) which are extending from the axle insertion portion (20), radially with respect to the centre axis of the axle insertion portion (20). Further, plurality of spokes (6) comprises a first end (6a) and a second end (6b). On the rim (2) an extended portion (7) is formed at a junction (8) for allowing more volume of a charge of molten metal to flow from plurality of spokes (6) towards the rim (2) for enhancing the strength of the die-cast wheel (101, 102) with minimal casting defects and minimal weight of the die-cast wheel (101, 102).
1. A die-cast wheel (101, 102) for an automobile (100) comprising:
a rim (2) is extending circumferentially with respect to a centre axis
which is passing from centre of an axle insertion portion (20), said
rim (2) is having a radius (R) connected with plurality of spokes (6);
and
plurality of spokes (6) are extending from the axle insertion portion
(20), radially with respect to the centre axis which is passing from
centre of the axle insertion portion (20), plurality of spokes (6)
comprises a first end (6a) and a second end (6b);
wherein,
an extended portion (7) having a radius (R’) is formed on said rim
(2) at a junction (8) formed by said second end (6b) of plurality of
spokes (6) and said rim (2).
2. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein the extended portion (7) radius (R’) is lesser than the radius (R) of the rim (2).
3. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein said extended portion (7) thickness (T) range lies between ~25% to ~75% of average rim thickness (T’).
4. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein said extended portion (7) is provided along the circumferential direction of said rim (2).
5. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein said extended portion (7) width (w) is greater than total width (w’) of second end (6b).
6. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1 and claim 5, wherein said extended portion (7) width (w) is less than 0.75*(2:r/n) where n is number of plurality of spokes (6).
7. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein said die-cast wheel (101, 102) casting material is selected from a group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, and other alloying elements.
8. The die-cast wheel (101, 102) for the automobile (100), as claimed in claim 1, wherein the extended portion (7) formed at the junction (8) is configured to allow more volume of a charge of molten metal to flow from plurality of spokes (6) towards the rim (2).
9. A method for manufacturing a die-cast wheel (101, 102) for an automobile (100) comprising:
forming an extended portion (7) having a radius (R’) at a junction (8)
formed by plurality of spokes (6) and a rim (2);
pouring charge of molten metal into mold cavity from a hub (3);
flowing of charge of molten metal begins from the hub (3) firstly, then
to plurality of spokes (6) secondly, then to the extra volume at the
junction (8) thirdly, and finally ending at the rim (2);
allowing charge of molten metal to cool and solidify into mold cavity;
removing the die-cast wheel (101, 102) from the mold; and
machining the die-cast wheel (101, 102) to any desired shape.
10. The method for manufacturing a die-cast wheel (101, 102) for an
automobile (100) as claimed in claim 9, wherein the extended portion (7)
provides extra volume in mold cavity at the junction (8).
