Abstract: This invention relates to a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly comprising of a dual element wire type oil filter along with a flushing unit for cleansing of the secondary filter of the suction filter, wherein dual element allows atleast two stage filtering of oil with first stage filtering the coarse particles and inner element filtering the finer particles.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART OF THE INVENTION
Engine oil is used for lubrication . and cooling of Engine components during operation. A pump is used for supply of oil from oil Sump to the required locations with required pressure. Metal particles from various components and carbon particles due to burning of oil get mixed into oil, thus decreasing the lubrication properties of oil and hence its performance. A filter is used to clean the oil as it gets contaminated with metal particles, carbon particles etc. These impurities are filtered with the main filter and the filtered oil flows to the various parts of engine for lubrication.
There are two filters used in the process
1. Wire element Suction filter in the sump end
2. Engine oil filter (paper element) (much finer than wire element)
Presently, Engine oil filter is required to be replaced with 250 hours of Operation. To increase the replacement duration, engine oil filter element must be protected against coarse particles which create resistance in oil flow thus finally choke the filter. Therefore, the present invention
proposes a dual element engine oil filter which includes the following major components:
1. Dual mesh engine oil suction filter assembly (with two element,
one is coarse and other is fine).
2. Flushing unit to flush the particles entrapped in 2nd stage. It
also includes one way pressure regulating valve and a pressure
release knob.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly which is simple in construction.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly which is effective.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly which overcomes disadvantages associated with the known art.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly comprising of a, dual element wire type oil filter along with a flushing unit for cleansing of the secondary filter of the suction filter, wherein dual element allows atleast two stage filtering of oil with first stage filtering the coarse particles and inner element filtering the finer particles.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: dual-element-self cleaning engine oil suction filter assembly of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
The present invention is directed to a dual element-engine oil suction filter assembly as shown in fig. 1. Said filter assembly comprising of a dual element wire type oil filter along with a flushing unit for cleansing of the secondary filter of the suction filter, wherein dual element allows two stage filtering of oil with first stage filtering the coarse particles and inner element filtering the finer particles, which increases the life of the main engine oil filter.
Thus, the dual element engine oil suction filter assembly comprises of primary mesh (coarse) (1), secondary mesh (fine) (2), engine oil filter (3), one way valve (4), oil reservoir for flushing operation (5) and spring loaded normally closed-flush lever (6) connected to each other and working in a combination.
The engine oil is used to lubricate the engine parts, cool off engine parts, prevent engine parts from rusting, wash engine parts and keep the inside parts clean. The oil pump sucks the oil out of the sump (7) and, at a high pressure, pumps it through the oil filter to the various engine parts, after which the oil returns to the sump. The oil level must be checked every morning before the engine is started. With repeated use, oil properties change due to exposure to high temperatures, accumulation of foreign particles, carbon particles etc. Thus, engine oil requires change after certain hours of operation.
Engine oil filter is used to filter oil during operation and with time filter element starts accumulating with impurities present in oil. Paper element filter is used in case of tractors. Filter is required to operate for . oil under high pressure and high temperature. Depending on hours of operation, type of operation and operating conditions, filter is to be changed from time to time. The instant invention is directed to increase life of the main filter and prevent frequent replacement of Engine oil filters.
The arrangement of the instant invention can be provided so as to readily fit into the existing oil flow circuits.
Working of a dual element Engine oil suction filter assembly
Gear pump creates suction for oil to oil sump. Oil starts flowing through primary mesh and coarse contamination are filtered at this stage,, wherein further movement of oil through secondary filter removes finer particles from engine oil. After passing through pump, highly pressured
oil is filtered by Engine oil filter. From here oil flows to main oil gallery. Further, a pipe is introduced which lets oil flow into an oil reservoir for flushing operation through a one-way valve. Oil inside reservoir is maintained at high pressure by spring loaded Piston assembly. It is important as pressurized oil will clean the collected material effectively from oil suction filter first from secondary filter then from primary filter. Backflow to oil suction filter is controlled by a manually operated spring loaded-normally closed flush lever. This lever is operated after engine is shut down thus allowing oil in reservoir to flow back into sump. Being spring loaded, this lever automatically gets into closed position after the flushing operation is completed. This completes only cycle of operation.
Thus engine oil suction filter gets cleaned after every cycle, i.e. starting of engine- engine shut down- flushing operation.
Advantageous features
• Increase in life of main paper element oil filter.
• Increase in duration of oil filter change period.
• Increase in the life of oil pump.
• Filtering capacity of engine oil suction filter remains good due to regular cleaning.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
