[0030] The term “soil sampler” or “sampler”, “a fixed depth horizontal soil profile sampler” are interchangeably used in the Specification where all these terms have same context and meaning as it describes a soil sampler of the invention.
[0031] The invention disclosed herein provides a fixed depth horizontal soil profile sampler. The fixed depth horizontal soil profile sampler described herein extracts soil sample from the desired depth with no loss of soil from the column experiment as no core is extracted.
[0032] FIG. 1 illustrates is a fixed depth horizontal soil profile sampler, in accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention. In some example embodiments, referring to FIG.1, the invention provides a horizontal soil sampler (100). The horizontal soil sampler (100) comprises a lower rod (103) and an upper rod (101).
[0033] In some example embodiments, the upper rod (101) is slidably connected to the lower rod (103). The upper rod (101) is extended in a specific direction with respect to the lower rod (103) in a sliding manner. A manual effort is required to slide the upper rod (101) during collection of the soil sample. The specific direction may be a forward direction or a backward direction.
[0034] In some example embodiments, the lower rod (103) may include a first end and a second end. The first end corresponds to a front portion (105) and the second end corresponds to the handle (120) of the lower rod (103). The front portion (105) is on a first end of the lower rod (103). The front portion is including cone shaped portion which is a sharp portion which may be inserted into the desired depth of the ground or the soil of which the sample needs be taken.
[0035] In some example embodiments, the front portion (105) includes a rectangular portion (105b) and a triangular portion (105a). The rectangular portion (105b) and the triangular portion (105a) provides the stability to the soil sampler (100) while inserting the soil sampler (100) into the soil. The rectangular portion (105a) therefore provides stability and prevents breakage of the soil sampler (100) during the insertion of the soil sampler (100) into the soil for collection of the soil sample.

The sliding operation leads to coincide the at least one hole of the upper rod (101) and the lower rod (103). An attachment nut or attachment bolts may be placed between these holes to keep the upper rod (101) and the lower rod (103) in the fixed position.
[0039] In some example embodiments, the horizontal soil sampler (100) includes a hammering portion (near the second hand) on a second end of the lower rod (103). Further, the soil sampler (100) is made up of an iron material.
[0040] FIG. 2 illustrates an insertion of the soil sampler into a desired depth of the soil, in accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention. In some example embodiments, referring to the FIG.2, during the collection of the soil sample, the front portion (105) is inserted into the desired depth of the soil by hammering the hammering portion. The rectangular portion (105a) provides stability and it prevents breakage of the front portion due to hammering.
[0041] In some example embodiments, the soil sampler (100) while it is inserted into the soil column. Once the sampler reaches the desired horizontal depth of the soil as shown in Fig. 2. The screw/attachment nut attaching the upper rod (101) and lower rod (103) of the sampler (100) is disengaged.
[0042] In some example embodiments, the front portion may capable of enter the desired depth of the soil during the collection of the soil sample. Further, the upper rod (101) slidably extended to form the hollow cavity (illustrated in Fig.3) in which the soil sample is collected. The upper rod (101) may be extended till the second handle of the lower rod (103). The cavity may be extended from a small portion to a full length of the soil sampler (100).
[0043] FIG. 3 illustrates a sliding operation of the upper rod and thereby forming a hollow cavity, in accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention. In some example embodiments, a hollow cavity (300) is formed between the upper rod (101) and the lower rod (103) corresponding to the slidable movement of the upper rod (101). The upper rod (101) of the sampler (100) is slides up through a hammer which is applied to the notches provided on the upper section (hammering section) as shown in Fig-3. The hollow cavity (300) in which the soil sample is enters into the soil sampler (100).
[0044] Therefore, the soil sampler disclosed herein extracts soil sample from the desired depth without loss of soil from the column experiment as no core is extracted.
[0045] The soil sampler (100) disclosed herein is easy to use, economical, and resizable according to needs of application or purpose.
[0046] The present sampler extracts the horizontal soil layers (profile) from the point of insertion of the sampler. Some of the existing horizontal sampler require base for its installation and its use which limits their utility but the soil sampler (100) disclosed herein is portable requiring no base for fixing it.
[0047] The soil sampler (100) may be scaled up or reduced in size according to need. The soil sampler (100) is mechanical device requiring no outside source of energy.
[0048] The foregoing description of the specific embodiments will so fully reveal the general nature of the embodiments herein that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily modify and/or adapt for various applications such specific embodiments without departing from the generic concept, and, therefore, such adaptations and modifications should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the disclosed embodiments. It is to be understood that the phraseology or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation. Therefore, while the embodiments herein have been described in terms of preferred embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the embodiments herein can be practiced with modification within the spirit and scope of the embodiments as described herein.
