A Fixture Assembly For Establishing Centre Of An Irregular Shaped Component

Abstract: Present subject matter relates to fixture for establishing centre of an irregular shaped component for machining operation. Machining an irregular shaped component is a time consuming and tedious task so to reduce the time of machining the component, a fixture (120) is designed to hold component (100) on the jig mill boring machine (150). The fixture (120) consists of a center bit holder (110) to locate center of irregular shape component which ensures smooth machining operations like facing and centering. The component (100) is mounted on V-blocks (124) and clamps (140) of the fixture (120). This arrangement ensures high quality and productivity of machined components. Also the rate of rejection and set up time of components is reduced by using fixture (120) for machining component (100).

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS AND PRIORITY
[001] The present application claims priority from Indian provisional application no. 201941053484 filed on 23rd December 2019.

TECHNICAL FIELD
[002] The present subject matter described herein, in general, relates to a fixture assembly for establishing a centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component mounted on fixture.
BACKGROUND
[003] Fixture is a work holding or support device used in machining industry. Fixtures are used to securely locate and support the work, ensuring that all parts produced using the fixture will maintain conformity and interchangeability. Using a fixture improves the economy of production by allowing smooth operation and quick transition from part to part, reducing the requirement for skilled labor by simplifying how work pieces are mounted, and increasing conformity across a production run.
[004] Fixtures should be designed with economics in mind; the purpose of these devices is often to reduce costs, and so they should be designed in such a way that the cost reduction outweighs the cost of implementing the fixture. To secure workpieces and prevent motion during operation, support components primarily use two techniques: positive stops and friction. A positive stop is any immovable component that, by its placement, physically impedes the motion of the workpiece. Support components are more likely to be adjustable than locating components, and normally do not press tightly on the workpiece or provide absolute location.
[005] Generally, securing an irregular shaped component for machining requires different setups and tools due to complexity of the shape. Further, during machining it is difficult to locate the centre of the irregular shaped component. Hence, due to difficulty in locating the centre of the component there is a possibility of mis-operation leading to rejection. Furthermore, due to different setups and tools required for securing the component, more time is required and thus productivity is reduced.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[006] It is an object of the present invention to establish centre of an irregular shaped component with offset axis prior to machining.
[007] Another object of the present invention to reduce setup time and improve productivity.
[008] Yet another object of the present invention to improve dimensional accuracy.
[009] Yet another object of the invention is to reduce rejections and improve the quality of the product.

SUMMARY
[010] Before the present system and method are described, it is to be understood that this application is not limited to the particular machine or an apparatus, and methodologies described, as there can be multiple possible embodiments that are not expressly illustrated in the present disclosures. It is also to be understood that the terminology used in the description is for the purpose of describing the particular versions or embodiments only, and is not intended to limit the scope of the present application. This summary is provided to introduce aspects related to a fixture for establishing centre of an irregular shaped component, and the aspects are further elaborated below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify essential features of the proposed subject matter nor is it intended for use in determining or limiting the scope of the proposed subject matter.
[011] A method for establishing centre of an irregular shaped comprises a fixture along with a holder. The holder is configured to hold a centre bit and generate centres at multiple locations and ensure simultaneous machining operations. The fixture for establishing the center of an irregular shaped component helps to reduce the set-up time of component. The fixture for establishing center of an irregular shaped component improves dimensional accuracy and quality of component. This fixture ensures reduction in rejection rate of components.

[013] The detailed description is described with reference to the accompanying figure. In the figure, the left-most digit(s) of a reference number identifies the figure in which the reference number first appears. The same numbers are used throughout the drawing to refer like features and components.
[014] Figure 1 illustrates an irregular shaped component, in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.
[015] Figure 2 illustrates a fixture for securing an irregular shaped component, in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.
[016] Figure 3 illustrates a jig mill boring machine with fixture for securing an irregular shaped component, in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.
[017] Figure 4 illustrates a jig mill boring machine with fixture and center bit holder for securing an irregular shaped component, in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.
[018] The figure depicts various embodiments of the present disclosure for purposes of illustration only. One skilled in the art will readily recognize from the following discussion that alternative embodiments of the structures and methods illustrated herein may be employed without departing from the principles of the disclosure described herein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[019] Some embodiments of this disclosure, illustrating all its features, will now be discussed in detail. The words "comprising", “having”, and "including," and other forms thereof, are intended to be equivalent in meaning and be open ended in that an item or items following any one of these words is not meant to be an exhaustive listing of such item or items, or meant to be limited to only the listed item or items. Although any systems and methods similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice or testing of embodiments of the present disclosure, the exemplary, systems and methods are now described. The disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the disclosure, which may be embodied in various forms.
[020] Various modifications to the embodiment will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and the generic principles herein may be applied to other embodiments. However, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the present disclosure is not intended to be limited to the embodiments illustrated, but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and features described herein.
[021] Referring now to figure 1, in one aspect of present invention, an irregular shaped component (100) to be machined. The component (100) consists of centering locations (102) and facing locations (106) to be machined.
[022] Referring now to figure 2, in one aspect of present invention, a fixture (120) for establishing centre of an irregular shaped component (100) is shown. The fixture (120) comprises a center bit holder (110) which is configured to generate centres of component (100) with an offset axis. Furthermore, the fixture (120) comprises a fixture base plate (122) on which V blocks (124) and intermediate support block (126) are configured to hold the component (100) for machining operation. The component (100) is clamped on v-blocks by clamping bolts (127). Vertical support for supporting component (128) is configured to support component (100) at intermediate position of component (100). Plurality of slots (129) on fixture base plate (122) are configured to hold the fixture (120) on machine table.
[023] Referring now to figure 3, the fixture (120) will be loaded on the jig boring machine (150) and clamped using four numbers of M16 T-Bolts (130) and clamps (140). Load the component (100) on fixture (120) and clamp the component using two numbers clamps (140) which is a part of fixture. The fixture (120) is placed on machine table (160) of the jig mill boring machine (150) to carry out machining of component (100).
[024] Referring now to figure 4, the fixture (120) consists a center bit holder (110) which is used to locate centers of component (100). When machining of one side of the component (100) is done then turn the machine table to 180 degree to machine other side of the component (100).
[025] Further, the invention can be used, but not limited to, in the following applications.
[026] One embodiment of the invention can be used for establishment of centre hole of an irregular shaped component.
[027] Exemplary embodiments discussed above may provide certain advantages. Though not required to practice aspects of the disclosure, these advantages may include those provided by the following features.
[028] Some object of the present invention reduces defects.
[029] Some object of the present invention reduces setup time and improves productivity.
[030] Some object of the present invention enables accuracy of the machining operation.

,CLAIMS:
1. A fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining component comprises;
fixture base plate (122),
plurality of v-block (124) to hold component (100),
plurality of clamps (140) with clamping bolts (127) to clamp the component (100),
a center bit holder (110),
an intermediate support block (126) and
a vertical support for supporting component (128).

2. The fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said fixture base plate (122) is configured for mounting of plurality of v-block (124), plurality of clamps (140) with clamping bolts (127), a center bit holder (110), an intermediate support block (126) and a vertical support for supporting component (128).
3. The fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said plurality of v-blocks (124) are configured for mounting the ends of component (100) with offset axis.

The fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said center bit holder (110) and vertical support for supporting component (128) are configured to support the component (100) at intermediate bend and to retain its clamped position during machining operation.

The fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said plurality of clamps (140) are configured for clamping the ends of the offset axis component (100) on plurality of v-blocks (124) by clamping bolts (127).
6. The fixture assembly (120) for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said intermediate support block (126) is mounted to provide support to center bit holder (110) and component (100).
7. The fixture assembly for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said bolts (130) are configured to be inserted in slots (129) of the fixture assembly (120) for rigidly mounting of said fixture assembly (120) on the machine table (160).
8. The fixture assembly for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said the fixture assembly (120) is configured for machining both sides of component (100) without removing component from fixture assembly (120).
9. The fixture assembly for establishing the centre of an irregular shaped component for machining the component as claimed in claim 1, wherein said the fixture (120) is configured to reduce the set-up time of component (100), improve the dimensional accuracy (100), quality of component (100) and rejection rate of components (100).
