CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS AND PRIORITY
[001] This patent application claims priority from Indian Provisional Application 201821042585 filed on November 13, 2018.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[002] The present subject matter described herein generally relates to a fixture for cutting a duct.
BACKGROUND
[003] Pre-insulated double spiral duct is available in pre-defined lengths specially 3 mt. length. The Pre-insulated double spiral duct pipes may be interchangeably referred to as a duct, hereinafter. For specific applications, the duct has to be cut according to length required for that specific application. Currently, the technique used to cut the duct during manufacturing is cutting a single pipe to a pre-defined length required by the application facilitated by a plasma cutting machine or by a cutting wheel. The single pipe may be cut after fabrication. After cutting of the single pipe, the single pipe is further fabricated into the pre-insulated double spiral duct. It is to be noted that if the cutting process were to be implemented on the pre-insulated double spiral duct after manufacturing, the pre-insulated double spiral duct has to be cut manually facilitated by a hacksaw. Further, challenges may arise during the manual cutting of the pre-insulated double spiral duct. One of the challenge during manual cutting of the pre-insulated double spiral duct is that an inner spiral duct that is a part of the pre-insulated double spiral duct does not have any support, resulting in slippage of the inner spiral duct during manual cutting, thereby resulting in unequal surface edge after cutting. The pre-insulated double spiral duct is fabricated with a cold rolled steel strips by a lock form method. Further, another challenge faced during manual cutting is that the cold rolled steel act as a deterrent due to its thickness, thereby increasing the cutting efforts. Further, the pre-insulated double spiral duct consists of Mineral Fiber Resin Board (MFRB) insulation between the inner spiral duct and an outer spiral duct. During manual cutting, the MFRB insulation particles are produced which spread in air causing itching on body parts.

[0014] As described above, a fixture for cutting a duct is disclosed. The fixture may comprise a table. The table may be capable to move along an x-axis. The fixture may further comprise a set of first clamps. The set of first clamps may be attached on the table and may be capable to hold the duct. The fixture may further comprise a one or more gaskets, wherein the one or more gaskets may be installed at an inner side of the duct and at an outer side of the duct to prevent misalignment. The fixture may further comprise a set if second clamps which may be affixed on a circumference of the duct at a predefined distance. The set of second clamps are capable to hold the one or more gaskets and the duct together. The fixture may further comprise a rigid square bar is installed & act as guide for keyway on band saw machine for guiding the movement of the table along the x-axis. Since the fixture is used for cutting the duct, the problems of infection or itching on the human body due to MFRB insulation particles are eliminated.
[0015] Hence, the fixture for cutting the duct is technically advanced. The pieces of the ducts that are obtained after cutting may have straight and uniform surface edges. Due to the use of the fixture for cutting the duct, the cutting time and cost is also significantly reduced. The fixture may facilitate smooth cutting. Further, due to the use of the fixture for cutting the duct, fatigue of the workman may be reduced, and breakage of the hacksaw blade may to eliminated.
[0016] Referring to figure 1, that represents various part of the fixture 100 for cutting a duct, in accordance with an embodiment of the present subject matter.
[0017] In one embodiment, the fixture 100 may comprise a table 102, a set of first clamps 106, one or more gaskets 104 and a set of second clamps 108.
