Specification

FIELD OF IIY1IEITTION
This invention relates to floor mat of vehicle. This is in particular related to
PVC/plastic floor mat of vehicle.
PRIOR ART
Currenfly available mat is provided with velcro by directly stitching to it. This
deteriorates appeara.nce of mat because stitches are visible to customer.
In this regard reference may be made to the following known arts:-
WO 2OO4OO94O1A1:- The invention concerns a motor vehicle trimming
equipment, in particular an auxiliar5r mat. It comprises a peripheral welt cord
provided, on at least two lateral sides of the mat and on its lower surface, selfgrlpping
elements.
Thus, it comprises male Velcro direcfly attached on periphery of the mat by
stitching or welding.
Another prior art discloses accessory floor mat retained in place on a carpet
floor covering in a floor well of a motor vehicle, regardless of mat placement, by
a hook and loop type fastener in which the hook portion and loop portion are of
different sizes. A first, e.g. hook, portion of the fastener is anchored on the
carpet floor covering while the second, e.g. loop, portion is disposed on an
underside of the mat. The fastener portions are sized, constructed and located
such that the smaller sized portion is immediately and substantially fully
engaged with the other portion, regardless of mat placement, whenever the mat
is installed in the floor well. The first fastener portion may be anchored on the
carpet floor covering with a clip having a patterned central post. The second
fastener portion can be a textile fabric having elongated yarn loops covering
substantially all of the underside of the mat.
-3-
It comprises both male and female Velcro direcfly attached on back surface of
mat, wherein male Velcro is attached with the mat by adhesive and female
Velcro is attached with carpet by means of screw. Male Velcro is provided on all
four corners of mat and female Velcro in patches on floor carpet.
Still another prior art is directed to a floor mat having a braided edge equipped
with self-gnpping hooks along at least two sides. The braiding can be affixed to
the mat by sewing, welding or adhesive, and the self-gripping elements can be
both male and female, i.e. hooks and loops, disposed randomly or alternately.
The mat can be applied directly to existing carpet or to Velcro (RTM) strips.
It is having male Velcro attached to mat on its periphery with the help of
stitching/welding.
Disadvantages associated with the above are as follows:-
- Velcro is visible to customer at the edges of mat
- Poor aestheticness
- Development of wrinkle at centre.
Hence, the present invention has been proposed to address the aforesaid
shortcomings.
OBJECTS OF THE IN1TENTION
Primary object of the present invention is to provide floor mat of vehicle which
overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
-4-
Another object of the present invention is to provide floor mat of vehicle which
is simple in construction.
Further object of the present invention is to provide floor mat of vehicle which
is reliable and eflicient.
SUMMARY OF THE INTIENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a floor mat of vehicle comprising
a sheet stitched with a Velcro, which is welded to a mat at its back surface.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPAI{YING DRAWII{GS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: male velcro used in the present invention.
Fig. 2 shows: Velcro stitched PVC/plastic sheet according to present invention.
Fig. 3 shows: Velcro with sheet attached to mat in accordance with present
invention.
Fig. 4 shows: top surface of mat of present invention.
ACCOMPAIYYING DRAWINGS
The invention discloses a floor mat of vehicle. Movement of the floor mat must
be restricted in vehicle during use to avoid mat fouling with accelerator pedal
and brake pedal.
-5-
To restrict movement of mats in vehicle, surface of the mat must have anti
skidding means. In case of PVC/plastic mats it is very difficult to stop its
movement even after provision of spikes on back surface.
Therefore, additional provision is required to be made to stop movement, with
the help of Velcro.
According to present invention, the mat comprising of atleast three layers
namely mat, sheet and Velcro. The mat and sheet are preferably made of
PVC/plastic.
The PVC sheet is stitched \Mith male Velcro (as shown in fig. 1) at its back
surface to obtain Velcro stitched PVC/plastic sheet as indicated in fig. 2. The
stitching of the Velcro (1) is carried out by placing the same on the pVC/plastic
sheet (2).
Thereafter, PVC/plastic sheet with Velcro is welded on back surface of
PVC/plastic mat by means of ultrasonic welding as shown in fig. 3. The
welding is done around the stitches.
PVC sheet can be of any types such as pvc plain, pvc transparent, pvc
designer.
The PVC mat can be plain at its back. Alternatively, it can be provided with a
plurality of spikes or knurling pattern on its back surface.
Also PVC mat can have coating of paint or lacquer.
After welding no marks of welding are visible on top surface of mat as can be
observed in fig. 4.
-6-
The material of sheet and mat is preferably PVC/plastic. However, other
suitable materials readily apparent to a person skilled in the art are
understood to be within scope of the invention.
The welding is carried out by using preferably ultrasonic welding.
Method of application in Plastic/PIIC materlals
In the case of plastics/PVC, the vibrations €rre perpendicular to the plane of the
materials and the frictional heat increases the temperature enough to melt the
plastics. The plastic molecules mix together and form bonds. Upon cooling, the
plastic surfaces are welded together. Welding times can vary, but the welds can
form in as little as 0.25 seconds.
Advantaseous Features
- Prevents movement of mat on floor of vehicle.
- Retains aestheticness of mat
- Avoids mat fouling with accelerator pedal and brake pedal.
- Avoids visibility of welding marks on top surface of mat.
- Avoids any requirement for change in design to conceal stitch markes on
tfre mat.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims:-
-7-
