A Footrest For A Vehicle

Abstract: A footrest for a vehicle where the vehicle having a frame, pair of rear panels to cover the tail portion of the vehicle and a footrest which is attached to the frame of the vehicle. The footrest for a vehicle comprises plurality of portions. First portion being a foot peg portion, second portion being a footrest body, and a third portion being a footrest mounting portion, where the first portion, second portion and the third portion being integrally attached with each other to form a single structure called footrest. The present footrest ensures to provide an improved aesthetic appeal of the vehicle and improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Further, it saves manufacturing time, assembling time and labour by reducing the number of mountings.

[0001] The present subject matter relates generally to a two-wheeled vehicle. More particularly but not exclusively, the present invention relates to a footrest for saddle type vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0001] A vehicle typically includes a first seat portion on which a rider sits, a second seat portion which is disposed behind the first seat portion and on which a pillion passenger sits, pair of footrest on which the pillion passenger puts their feet. Pillion footrests are fitted on both sides of the vehicle which increases width length from both sides of a body frame thereof. A variety of casting/moulding and fabrication processes may be used to manufacture the footrest holder based on type of material selected for the same. Typically, footrests extending from either sides of a body frame of the vehicle are provided in a vehicle so that an user can comfortably rest his feet while riding. In many cases, the footrest assembly is pivotally attached to the vehicle body frame, and the footrest portion can be protruded out during use and can be traced back when not in use.
[0002] Existing footrest assembly offers several drawbacks such as generally, footrest portion placed on outside the frame cover which significantly impairs the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle. Additionally, it causes a drag resistance while vehicle is in running condition. Therefore, it obstructs the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Another problem with the existing footrest assembly is it consists multiple mountings and plurality of parts joined together to form a footrest assembly which increases the manufacturing time, assembling time and labor. Further, plurality of parts leads to more complexity in designing and manufacturing.
[0003] Thus, object of the present invention to provide a footrest which can solve above mentioned problems.
[0004] The present invention relates to a footrest which is more aesthetically appealing and where the plurality of parts has been reduced in order to save time, manufacturing cost and labor.

[0006] According to embodiments illustrated herein, the present disclosure provides a footrest for a vehicle especially a saddle type vehicle. The footrest comprises a foot peg portion, herein referred to as first portion, footrest body, herein referred to as second portion and a footrest mounting portion, herein referred to as third portion, where the first portion, second portion and the third portion being integrally attached with each other to form a single structure called footrest.
[0007] According to embodiments illustrated herein, the present disclosure also provides a vehicle having a frame, pair of rear panels to cover the tail portion of the vehicle and a footrest which is attached to the frame of the vehicle. The footrest has first portion, second portion and third portion which are integrally attached with each other to form a single unit called footrest.

[00021] In addition, the present invention is illustrated as a vehicle having a frame, pair of rear panels to cover the tail portion of the vehicle and a footrest which is attached to the frame of the vehicle. The footrest has first portion, second portion and third portion which are integrally attached with each other to form a single unit called footrest.
[00022] In addition, the present subject matter also ensures to provide an improved aesthetic appeal of the vehicle by having a footrest which is configured in such a way that it completely aligns along the rear panel of the vehicle during closed condition. It also improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle as the complete alignment of footrest along the rear panel of the vehicle results in no part protruding out of the vehicle in order to avoid drag resistance. Additionally, the present subject matter provides footrest which is a single structure unit and thus plurality of parts have been reduced results in making the manufacturing process simple and complexity is reduced. Further, it saves manufacturing time, assembling time and labour. In addition, since there is single part, only one mounting is required unlike conventional vehicles, which require plurality of mountings.
[00023] Thus, the present subject matter provides a footrest which offers above mentioned advantages by having the footrest as a single structure unit which is being mounted on the vehicle. The footrest has three portions which are integrally attached to form a single structure unit.
[00024] Fig. 1 exemplarily illustrates a perspective view of a saddle type vehicle (200) showing the footrest (100). The perspective view illustrates the footrest (100) forged on the saddle type vehicle. The footrest as shown is in open condition, meaning the user can place the foot on the footrest (100).
[00025] Fig. 2 exemplarily illustrates a side perspective view of a saddle type vehicle (200). It illustrates the rear panel (202) and the footrest (100). Rear panel (202) is required to cover the rear portion of the frame of the vehicle. It further illustrates the tapering of the rear panel towards the rear end portion of the vehicle. Fig. 2 also illustrates the footrest going in alignment with the rear panel when going under closed condition.
[00026] Fig. 3 exemplarily illustrates a perspective view of footrest showing first, second and third portion. The first portion (101) being the foot peg portion, the second portion (102) being the footrest body and the third portion (103) being the footrest mounting portion. It further illustrates that the first portion and the second portion are at an angle which ranges from 100-130 degrees.
[00027] Fig. 4 exemplarily illustrates a right-side magnified view of mounting area for the footrest (100) of a saddle type vehicle (200). The mounting area as shown comprises a projection like structure which is fastening member (401) on which the footrest (100) being fastened. A stopper (not shown) which is a projection on the mounting member prevents the movement of the footrest beyond a pre-determined distance.
[00028] Fig. 5 exemplarily illustrates a left side magnified view of mounting area for the footrest of a saddle type vehicle. The mounting area as shown comprises a projection like structure which is fastening member (501) on which the footrest being fastened. A stopper (not shown) which is a projection on the mounting member prevents the movement of the footrest beyond a pre-determined distance.
[00029] Fig. 6a exemplarily illustrates a front view of a footrest of a saddle type vehicle. The footrest comprises a first portion being the foot peg portion, the second portion being the footrest body and the third portion being the footrest mounting portion. It further illustrates that the first portion is covered with a first material (601) which is a protective covering. The protective covering is a rubber sleeve.
[00030] Fig. 6b exemplarily illustrates a back view of a footrest of a saddle type vehicle showing the three portions of the footrest and the first portion being covered with protective covering which is a rubber sleeve. Back view further illustrates the socket member (602) in the third portion of the footrest.
[00031] In an embodiment, the footrest is detachably mounted on the frame of the vehicle. Thus, the footrest can be detached for servicing or for replacement.
[00032] In an embodiment, the first portion of the footrest is covered with a first material which is a protective covering member which can be a rubber sleeve.
[00033] In another embodiment, the rear panel is used to cover rear portion of the vehicle wherein, said rear panel (202) being tapered towards a rear end portion of said vehicle forming a tapered portion. This enhances the aerodynamics of the vehicle and reduces the drag resistance.
[00034] In other embodiment, the footrest (100) being aligned with said tapered portion of said rear panel under closed condition. There are two conditions- open condition and closed condition. In open condition, when the footrest is in use, it protrudes out to provide a platform for the user to rest their foot on the first portion of the footrest. Under closed condition, when the footrest is not in use, it completely aligns with the tapered portion of the rear panel so as to enhance the aerodynamics of the vehicle and provides a more aesthetic appeal of the vehicle.
[00035] In other embodiment, the angle of rotation of footrest (100) is about the mounting axis (Y-Y’) of the footrest. Thus, the rotation axis and mounting axis are kept same.
[00036] In one embodiment, the footrest (100) is aligned perpendicularly along the longitudinal axis (X-X’) of the vehicle when the footrest is in open condition.

1. A footrest (100) for a vehicle (200), said footrest (100) comprising:
a first portion (101);
a second portion (102); and
a third portion (103);
wherein,
said first portion (101), said second portion (102), and said third portion (103) being integrally attached to form said footrest (100).
2. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, said first portion (101), being a foot peg portion of said footrest (100), said second portion (102), being a footrest body of said footrest (100), and said third portion (103) being a foot rest mounting portion of said footrest (100).
3. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, said footrest (100) being detachably mounted on a frame of said vehicle (200).
4. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, said first portion (101) being covered with a first material (601), where said first material being a protective covering member.
5. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, a rear panel being placed on the said vehicle (200) to cover tail portion of said frame of said vehicle (200) wherein, said rear panel being tapered towards a rear end portion of said vehicle (200) forming a tapered portion.
6. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, said footrest (100) being aligned with said tapered portion of said rear panel under closed condition.
7. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, angle of rotation of said footrest (100) being about a mounting axis (Y-Y’) of said footrest (100).
8. The footrest (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, said footrest (100) being configured to aligned perpendicularly along a longitudinal axis (X-X’) of said vehicle (200) during open condition.
9. A vehicle (200), said vehicle (200) comprising:
a frame (201);
a pair of rear panels (202), said pair of rear panels (202) for covering a tail portion of said vehicle (200); and a footrest (100),
wherein,
said footrest (100) being attached to said frame wherein said footrest (100) having a first portion (101), a second portion (102) and a third portion (103) being integrally attached.
10. The vehicle (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein said first portion (101) being a foot peg portion, said second portion (102) being a footrest body and said third portion (103) being a footrest mounting portion.
11. The vehicle (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein, said footrest (100) being aligned with a rear panel (202) in closed condition.
12. The vehicle (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein said pair of real panels, being tapering inwardly towards said longitudinal axis (X-X’) of said vehicle, said footrest (100) being in flush with said pair of rear panels.
13. The vehicle (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein, angle of rotation of said footrest (100) being about a mounting axis (Y-Y’) of said footrest (100).
14. The vehicle (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein, said footrest (100) being configured to aligned perpendicularly along a longitudinal axis (X-X’) of said vehicle (200) during open condition.
